I'm now ready to purchase a Laptop designed specifically for gig use but I want to make sure I have the best possible processing speed when using DJing Software.

:triconfused: I'm looking at having Dell build me a laptop to aid me in getting only what I need. Suggestions would be helpful.

Question 1: What processor speed?

Question 2: Do I need to be able to access internet?

Question 3: Sound Card...internal or external? I currently use a Gigaport AG. Current laptop will become my backup.

Question 4: Size of Internal HD? [I use an External (1 TB by Western Digital) now.]

Question 5: Software? I use OTSAV now, but the license is expensive for each laptop. Does anyone use two different DJ software packages when doing gigs?

Question 6: Should I purchase a Controller that has it's own HD but can access an External HD vs. Laptop?

Question 7: Anything else I should add to the Laptop besides DJ Software? Anti-virus software? Word processing for Database Reference?

When you make comment, reference the Question #, it may make it easier vs. direct quote reference. ???

When you build your laptop and call Dell just tell them what you want it for and they will build it for you with the most top of the line stuff you need for your music etc.Now as for Controller it all depends on which Software you want to use.No worries Dell will help you make your laptop great for your dj needs when I built mine I spent about 1300.00. about 2 years ago.

Hello.
Any modern dual core laptop with a discrete video card will do a great job at dj or vj if you decide to do that later.
SPECS SHOULD BE.
Dual core or better.
4 gb ram
dedicated video ram (512 mb or better)
300gb hard drive
hdmi output vga is usually included along with the hdmi output.

As for a soundcard it will depend on wich software you get.

RockitPro ( owner lives on the board and very helpfull)

VDJ

These two software choices are very popular wirh the dj's here.

I would continue to use your external drive. This way you can use it with both your laptops. Actually get another and backup your music, trust me you want to do this.

Question 3: Sound Card...internal or external? I currently use a Gigaport AG. Current laptop will become my backup.
Since the output from the Laptop come from the Headphones out, I will use an external Sound Card. You already have a Gigaport so continue using that. It only requires one port.

Question 5: Software? I use OTSAV now, but the license is expensive for each laptop. Does anyone use two different DJ software packages when doing gigs?
Check with Rick and give his Product a try. There are others, I use Traktor Pro and Traktor 2.6.1 You get two licenses with your purchase. 50% Sale now on.

Question 7: Anything else I should add to the Laptop besides DJ Software? Anti-virus software? Word processing for Database Reference?
If you won't be going on the internet at a Gig, you can turn off the Anti Virus when you are at a gig. You will need to go on the internet for Updates to your DJ equipment and software.

I need to hear from an OTSAV DJ user regarding files imported into OTSAV from other source, i.e. window media player (My Music) file folder.

If I delete all the music files off my current laptop that have been imported into OTSAV and are on the External HD, will the music files still be on the External HD? I know this is a simple question, but I don't want to delete music from the Laptop "My Music" folder and then find out OTSAV can't access the music because it is gone.
Comments please.
