Need a shortened version of "Butterfly Kisses"

you eliminate too much, and it becomes a bad Readers Digest version

nice job HANK!

Isn't it supposed to be a reader's digest version? :) lol The version I have is 2:22 seconds with the kids in the beginning...I'll send it to those who wanted it. Now everyone will have the short, medium, and long end of it! :)

PS: We should set up an ftp site where everyone could share their edits..that would be kewl...and maybe illegal as well

There's a very good version of this by Jeff Carson. It's probably not short enough, but it's a lot less sappy....:sqerr: YMMV

absolutely!
but I was referring to "lack of content"...
rather than overall length of the song.
(since the song is a progressive STORY...)

Give me your e-mail and I'll send you the version I used for a wedding I did tonight. Edited for just over two minutes and I'll pay YOU if you can hear where the the edit takes place :)
My fiencee and I are getting married in 5 weeks and this is her favorite song but she was worried about the length of the song... do you think we could get a copy of that? We'd really apprecate it!! Thank you!!

To another D.J.

I was just hoping to look for some help to give me bride something she wanted... and this is something my dj wasn't sure she could do and make it sound good, so what is the harm in me asking? I don't understand how this involves you.

If this offering was to be made between members only, it should have been placed in a private forum by the original poster.

Perhaps

I really don't see the need to chastise anyone inquiring about what the found on a public search engine.

Chastise? What on earth are you talking about?

This person has identified themselves as a "non-DJ". That sort of hostility hurts us all.

What hostility, Hank? What are you talking about?

Hey all I've gotten quite a few requests for the shortened version of Butterfly Kisses that I have/made. Just fyi I won't be sending it out. I'm not sure what the rules are regarding sending a fellow dj an edited copy of a song they already have but I'd rather play it safe than sorry rather than having someone ask for it and be like hey you can't do that! thanks in advance for your understanding

I use MM Pro 5 to create all kinds of custom edits. I too have shortened Butt Kisses as per the brides request. When a song has a real ending and not a fade, it's always better to maintain the original ending which is why I do it. I have done other edits like lengthening 'I'm Yours' and 'At Last' so they could be used for the signing of the registry at different weddings.

That sort of hostility hurts us all.

I don't see what's hostile about suggesting that someone use the talents of someone they've hired, versus D.J.s most likely not in their area, and not performing at their event.

But just for the sake of debate, let's say I was hostile.

How does this hurt us, exactly?

Forget it Steve. My mistake. Please continue your good teachings. :tricool:

I'll send it over to you guys tomorrow. It's about 2:12 seconds and that's with the kids laughing/kid sounds in the beginning. It can be easily cued to start when the actual music kicks in
Hi Mike, I see this thread is 13 years old but if you still have the butterfly kisses version that’s just over 2 min, can you please send to [email protected]? I’m looking for the 3rd verse if possible! Cheers, RBSTWO

Mike hasn't been here in quite some time but @dunlopj was the original poster he is still around he may have it

Most of the time I've just done the edit live in the mix. I've had Bat Mitzvahs where it was necessary to edit out the reference to Jesus and that is much more easily done by just mixing it live. Live mixing is also much more responsive to the audience. Imagine for example, that for whatever reason all the brides brothers, uncles and friends start bringing their own daughters out to the floor as some show of emotional support - just as your edited version is closing out! :embarrassed:

Not that you couldn't restart, but if you are caught off guard with other tracks loaded and no more time in the current track it kind of cheats you out of those big moments that transcend anything a DJ could contrive on their own.

Also, it's a Copyright violation to re-record newly arranged edits of these tracks, and especially to distribute them to other DJs. You need permission of the copyright holder to do that. Mixing live at an event (especially a wedding) does not pose that liability or ethical breach. Oddly enough, the bride can do that herself for her own wedding, but it is not something a DJ is allowed under the Copyright laws to produce and provide,

For special dances doing a fade sounds poopy. (that's a technical term :)

That's why DJs have a microphone to transition. (that's a technical term...)
