The hits just keep coming with this product. The firmware apparently has a timeout that forces you to do an update periodically. I didn't find this out until I tried to use it at a gig a couple of weeks ago. Ended up with no sound active uplighting and no moving heads. Went back to HardwareManager to do a firmware update and HM started complaining that it required a new version, before you could even do the frigging firmware update. Went to download it and apparently the programmer screwed up on their build (using Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 - which is what I use on my day gig). The files that were missing were three .dll files; MSVCP140.dll, VCRuntime140.dll and VCRuntime140_1.dll. I have about 200 of these files on my work PC (which I likely would not have if I weren't a software developer using the same product) and no, they're not all the same. I had to hunt and peck in order to find the right combination, which I then had to manually copy to the C:\Windows\System32 folder (and register each). Finally was able to get HM to run and then updated the firmware.

Leaving dlls out of a project build is incredible incompetence on the part of the programmers. Then, to just leave it up on the download site, with no updates available well, it's just unforgiveable. I left a nasty note to ADJ on the forum, that I hope makes it to their upper management. Some people need to be fired and this product needs to be fixed.

I don't relish in being the messenger here but:

P.S. ADJ is not a company I'd trust for my venue.

ADJ has always (my opinion) put out decent quality products. Even their myDMX software controllers have been good pieces of software. For this product, it's just been a cluster-f all the way. WHEN it works, the product is easy to operate and does a nice job. However, the wireless connection on the box and now the hard expiration on the firmware, paired with a hard expiration on the firmware updating software is just too much. Add to that, the latest edition of the hardware manager just does not work. The idiots apparently didn't compile the software with the dependency files included in the project then, apparently didn't even test it to see if the installer works. If I hadn't experienced so much pain from this thing I might be a little more forgiving. After everything is said and done it's going to be interesting to see if it even works. I have myDMX 3.0, but have had a hard time getting it to play nice with the movers. I guess I'm going to have to dig in and figure it out, get a bunch of scenes built out then just ditch myDMX Go.

I'm a big fan of SoundSwitch. It plays well with both Serato and VDJ. It is much easier to perform with than having to choose light scenes. You build it once and it just works after that. It's worth looking at versus trying to build scenes on a traditional DMX controller.

I'd heard about a firmware update and didn't realize it was a do it or it don't work scenario.

Mine updated just fine and works as it should.

But it WOULD be nice to be notified via email that "Hey, update or it won't work SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE" as gomer used to say

I'm guessing they added expiration code in later revisions. Yes, it really sucks to get to a gig and be met with an error message.

Just ordered a Sushi-DS interface. The app used by myDMX Go is apparently also called "Lightrider" and is available on Android, where you can actually hardwire the two. I still like the UI but the problems that myDMX Go has had are ridiculous and it seems every move they make to change it just results in yet another screw up.

Sushi is ok. I think MDG is better.
As long as it can be hardwired and works, I don't care what it is. I'm fed up with myDMX Go and their crappy connectivity problems, not to mention how they've now multiplied the problems by adding expirations to their firmware and the firmware update software.

I don't disagree - I just think you're exchanging one set of problems for another .. might be time to look for a better overall product.

I hope not. I've seen an awful lot of posts on the FB forum from guys who with Android with a multi-plug power/data adapter cable and they're reporting it being solid. I really, really like the interface on the app, just despise the wifi implementation (and the repeated screw ups) that ADJ went with. If this works, I'll obviously be selling my ADJ box/dongle. BTW, I ordered a converter cable and a Samsung Galaxy this morning. Should be here on Thursday. Fingers crossed.

I hope not too. I'm not a fan of buying something .. and then having to buy 'it' (other similar but better product) again because of issues with the first purchase. I have the Sushi - and based on what I've seen, while the product itself worked, the software really, really sucks .. hence why I said you're switching one set of problems for another. FWIW, I think the MDG issues are all software related also. MDG has a much better software design - just really poorly built and implemented. Some of this comes back to cost (as pointed out in many other threads).
