Well gang this old HP running windows 7 has been my go to for 10 years officially as of last weekend, alway running VDJ, never used for anything but DJing. First show in the VDJ history was March 17 2012, 1113 shows in the history file, I’ve always had a newer backup ready to go several different ones in fact, never needed it. I bought it used from a guy who was headed to jail and needed some cash, best $300 I’ve ever spent

Mine is a Lenovo that I got for less then $50 and it's still working. I only play Monopoly on it and to DJ with. Never been online. I bought another Lenovo brand new for backup for a little over $600 and I too have not used it yet as a backup to DJ with. I'm using it to make this post.

Glad you enjoyed a lot of usage.

I typically replace my computers every 3 years or so. I just don't want to deal with any issues.

Maybe it's not the most economical way to do things. But for me, peace of mind is worth it.

I just recently tried a surface pro 8 and will be getting a 2nd one soon.

I have a Dell Vista machine I still use as my main laptop. I have a few others much newer but I like this one. I bought it in Sept 2007 as a backup went to the main machine in 2009. I don't think I have done as many shows as you with it but as a guess I would say it's over 1000

Let me ask this question instead of making a new thread. How often do any of you buy another computer to DJ with and why?
Thanks so much for not starting a new thread Macho!

Same here about every 4 years I'll buy one actually I think I'm due this year

Bit of a Zombie thread but what he heck )

I wound up buying 2 new ones this year one 17" Acer and one 17" Asus plus a 14" Asus I loaded up for my Daughter. The old Dell is still my main machine. One of my newer backups started causing trouble I still have it I'll diagnose it better when I have more time

This is kind of funny in a way. I started DJing in 81. Who knew that DJs in the future would be using a computer to DJ with? Who knew turntables would become obsolete and DJ controllers would be the in thing now. When I first came back I was using CD'S to DJ with and now my music is on a 2 TB portable HD.

I first saw the Emulator back in 2010, and I believe the cost to get one back then was $5,500. A lot of money, and unlikely it's going to get clientelle to pay you more for the look, but I still think it would be cool to DJ weddings with this set up!

DJ Touch Screen Emulator.jpg

Not quite the same as the emulator, but a 27" touch screen/computer combo is pretty inexpensive now compared to what they were 7 or 8 years ago. I keep thinking about going that route instead of using a laptop. Then again, the flat screen computer its larger, bulkier, and finding a case for one would be a handful, and expensive.

I have an Asus with Windows 7, that I've had just about as long. I just can't get myself to wrap my head around Windows 8 or anything higher. Windows 7 is so simple and has so few issues. But the laptop is old and I do use it for everything including as a backup DJ.

If you can use W7, you can use W10 - there isn't much difference. They have done a significant change to the interface for W11. I don't understand why MS feels the need to keep changing how it looks and how you use it. There is nothing more frustrating to the userbase than having to relearn what they already know.

They now have Windows 11. What's the big deal between 10 and 11. Upgrades are usually designed to add a few more features and costs more money. That's why they upgrade. It's about how they can make more money. Rarely will you see a free upgrade.

That's my issue. I never liked the "auto select" feature when you hover over something too long.
You can turn that off:

Open Settings.
On the search bar, type in Control Panel, and click it from the search results.
Once in Control Panel window, set the view to small icons, then select Ease of Access Center.
Under Explore all settings, select Make the mouse easier to use option.
Under Make it easier to manage windows, uncheck Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse.
Once done, click Apply, then OK.

Well then upgrade and tell us what you think. ;)
