I always find a way to rekindle the fire. I enjoy djing and I enjoy the income flow from it. I have 2 boys in college and a gear habit to support. Im not quitting no time soon. I started in 86 and been through many changes. Eddie get some new toys to play with (cdj's) it always worked for me.

I don't know any body that has been doing this for a long time that doesn't feel burnt out sometimes and wanting to quit. I'm at the point that I say to myself if I quit now what will I do to replace it. I really don't see anything I love so much to replace it with.

Like one member said not every event we do can be a rocking good time event. Some are just what they are. Events that didn't go very well. That happens. What renews my spirit to keep DJing is when I do an event where all goes well and I can keep going for well over an hour after the time the event is to be over.

When an event goes bad I just know there is one that's around the corner that will make up 4 times over for that one.

Eddie,

Let me make a suggestion. Raise your rates. You may be simply suffering from burn-out, which is common in this industry. By raising your rates, you will naturally slow down and be less likely to suffer from burn-out. And you make more money when you do work. It's the best of both worlds. If you're lucky, you may be able to make the same (or more) money per year while working less.

That doesn't necessarily always work I raised my rates and got busier. I suppose it would if you went to an extraordinary amount but then you might as well quit if you can't book anything

If I were not growing, expanding and stretching my services then certainly, after 3 decades I'd be sick of it as well.

Not everyone wants that Rick there are a lot of happy single ops out there. Going multi is what burned me out I've eased off the last couple of years especially this year. I'm as busy as ever but I've taken a few prime weekends off and changed the way I run the other systems

This is a business for me. While it is a business I enjoy overall, I'm not worried about having fun all of the time.

I do find it enjoyable for the most part to be leading a party for others and ensuring they are having fun. I have done, and do other things now that are not nearly as fun.

Over the years, I have honed my typical set ups to be easy to transport, set up, and tear down while still being very effective. Those things were the least enjoyable for me. Not having to rely on a roadie is something I enjoy too.

i do believe that if someone rreally doesn't like doing this, it probably will show through

I think by and large, DJing attracts a lot of lazy people.
The worst come and go quickly in what is a very high turn-over rate.
The rest linger on complaining about how the public doesn't understand what's important about a DJ and how no one "get's it."
Then come the endless contract clauses about stairs, weather, rude guests, and every possible inconvenience of life and work that might require some actual professionalism on their part. That's where they start to prove themselves to be precisely the kind horrible communicator and needy prima-dona that the public has come to expect of mobile DJs.

You don't give me much credit Jim. I am simply a realist -- I expect no miracles (unless I win the lottery, and can move to Tahiti).

Life is full of ups and downs -- you deal with them as you travel the path. So, I think you misconstrue what my attitude really is...

I just like to vent and rant -- that makes life fun :)

If we're all so bad, why do so many old guys still get work after 20 or 30 years?

I guess for some here, your DJ work load is like your s*x life.

You brag about how good it is, but in reality behind closed doors, you wish you had more or better quality "events".

I'm just sayin...;)

The point is how much people complain about any work - gotten or not.

Being a worker bee is not in any sense fun. Sitting on a beach in the South Pacific is fun -- you have nothing to complain about, except maybe a few sand fleas, and whether your cocktail is cold enough.

In which case you are still miserable - if not yourself than to everyone around you.

I'm only miserable to people I don't like.

In the last few days, you have come close to the top of that list. If you would put a smiley or two in your posts, it might be taken differently.

Feel free to come to The Farm and have a beer and chat (give me 24 hour notice -- I have to disable some security measures to allow folks on property).
