It's really simple... You don't have the customer's name or number....

So what you have is not a gig. You have a mess.

I dunt have partners. When I did... If they said they have a gig in 2 weeks, I'd say get details and contract. Until you have those, we don't have a gig, we have someone talking.

Don't blame people for wasting your time. Blame yourself for letting them. Be clear about what you want and what you expect of them.

Hopefully you'll see the good news that this is all your fault. The reason it's good news is that your can fix it whenever you really want. But something tells me that generating drama and getting people talking about you is more interesting to you that running a DJ business.

Just as a point you probably shouldn't have 2 guys booking gigs unless you are able to do 2 or more shows any given night because it could turn in to a clusterf**k really quick. Let your partner book the shows that way your only concern is showing up

THIS IS WHAT I RECOMMEND FOR MIX...….. cut loose your ties with this partner and only do events you can handle yourself. You call the shots, you do things your way, you control the management and you get all the income. It's really a no brainer.

If you need some part time help, get a person to accommodate your circumstances and situation on an as needed basis.

All i got out of this is that he just drives to events and takes photos... he has no association with the djing aspect of things.
sorry but I do. I was just put on the shelf for a while at DJing due to my health condition. I'm much better now. I'm ready to get back to DJing. I just had to heal because I could hardly walk. I have put down the cane. I still don't feel comfortable enough about lifting heavy equipment. Still have to remember easy does it.

Last time I did DJ was when I was at a function and the guy who was doing the event who is also helping us with the event in the park had me to play a bit. He would have liked me to play for an hour to give him a break. No way I could play for a whole hour. I did about 20-25 minutes and that was tough.

but you said YOU MADE THE CONTRACT.
The contract should have all of the information by which to contact the client to obtain further information.
I was talking about I created the contract. Now it's about getting the details to fill in for the contract to be signed and retainer paid. So far nothing. That's my issue with how he does things. Last minute. He acts like he's this super star DJ and they need him. It's the other way around. We need their business because around here DJs are a dime a dozen. There are plenty of DJs in this area. Unlike maybe another area that there are few DJs in that area.

I agree with you and that's why I'm considering having a talk with him.

You might want to consider having a talk to yourself the booking procedure is the least of your issues

Let me say this. We work together but we don't conduct business the same way.

I was contacted I believe in February or March to do a surprise 50th birthday celebration. It's for my best friends wife sister. Her daughter is giving her this surprise birthday celebration. It's over 6 months away and I know the date of the event which is Saturday October 12th and the venue is Casa Del Sol in Union, NJ. It's going to be in a small room upstairs with about 50 people. I will be the DJ. The only 2 things missing is the time for the event and the music I'm to play at the event. So I'm way ahead of the game. Understand now. That's the respect I get. I'm not trying to get info at the last minute.

So just to clarify.... you said that one of the key things you need to know before booking is the type of music they want....because as youve pointed out...you only do certain types of events with certain types of music...and yet the event YOU booked yourself...the one that gives u that "respect"... hasnt told you what music they want.

He doesn't know the hours yet either, which is also 'key'. ;)

Do you have a contract and retainer/deposit. I mean if they respect you, and you want a better crowd... you should be operating with that.
