So im frantically trying to research this... looks like with a pro zoom membership and an additional 40 dollars a month you can host webinars..... my question to you is.... did you need to be the host or did someone else host and just add you as a participant? im assuming the latter right?

So.... with that ... did you just add your 2 devices on as seperate participants in order to get the 2 angled shots? with one having audio? or did you do some sort of video production and send one single feed with the split screen?

cc

I would definitely look at Steve's suggestion - I don't think I'd pay $40 to Zoom to do this. But... I'm not paying for Zoom.

In Webinars there are presenters and attendees. So my colleague was the host, I joined as a presenter, and all of the guests were attendees.

Take a look also at WebEx .. their free plan has more capability than Zoom ...

IMO, Other than the time limit being lifted (zoom is 40 minutes), it's not as good as zoom. I just tested it. The host end is fine, but the participant end is not very good. The audio was terrible and i don't see any advanced settings other than simply choosing your source. I'm sure the paid version is on point. I'm not willing to pay for what is essentially a sandbox for me to play in during downtime.

Nice!! I would have never thought to use ZOOM. I thought it would have been severely compressing the audio.

So just an update to this...

Apparently a member of our People Team (HR) was on a panel discussion talking about keeping employees engaged, and mentioned the virtual DJ set I did, and a bunch of people asked for my contact information.

So now, it's getting blasted to a distro list of 300+ people that were on that discussion.

There might end up being a business opportunity in this streaming stuff yet!

Certainly not getting overly excited, but it would be great to find a new revenue stream in the midst of this.

I went to go try and live stream the other day using my second mac computer as the audio input and video feed and of course, the newer macs single port needs the Irig adapter. My old 2011 MBP could select for the single input to be input or output, but not the newer ones. bummer.

Waiting a week...

Will be using Yellow Duck and OBS to stream to IG from my MAC. I wish I could see the vertical view it puts out before streaming... Like you can see on your phone before you go live.

I just got an offer to do an hour next Tuesday for Cinco De Mayo.

Quoted $150 to play some jams from my garage. We'll see...
Does Apple offer a GarageDJ app ??

I've been doing an assortment of livestreams for the past month or so, and learning a TON in the process. Last night, I provided the after party for a local United Way benefit - it normally takes place at a venue, but they sprung into action to create a virtual event when it was obvious that it wouldn't be possible to hold the regular event.

I've set up a studio in my basement - the TV on the wall serves as my stream monitor so I can see what's happening during the event and read comments, I've got a green screen and modeling lights from my Photobooths and multiple cameras (I'm so glad I didn't sell my old iPhones and iPads...they're great for this), and I'm mixing music videos during my stream to add some visual content. Thank goodness for speaker stands, mic stands and parts from a selfie stick.

Until we know what the future holds for DJs, this isn't a bad workaround. The feedback from people who tuned in was overwhelmingly positive. Tomorrow I'll be doing a similar pre-event party for another organization in Boston.

So this was interesting...

Playing a virtual set from my controller worked really well. But when I tried to do something similar on my S9 the stream was picking up the control tone from the record. I had spent a little time working on it, but sort of gave up.

Apparently I wasn't the only one having this issue, and Mojaxx just reviewed a software that fixes the very issue I was having.

If anyone is using a non-controller set up, and wants to stream, this is a slick solution:

Hey Ross!

I have heard about the little trick with the S9. Glad you figured it out.

I mentioned it another thread, but it's nice to send your feed from a small connected mixer. Until people figured out the S9 trick, a lot of DJs were using a separate mixer. Some of the nicer mixers give the ability to have separate controls for aux outputs which makes things really nice.

I am loving using the T4s as I can send USB audio to my second laptop to stream but have totally different processing (well lack thereof) for the stream and not have the MIC come through as loud my studio speakers but full output on the USB audio out, otherwise, it can feedback super easily.

Where's the latest place I can check you out? Mixes or streams online anywhere?

That makes sense how you're doing it. I never made the leap on that Bose, and my Yamaha external mixer doesn't have a USB out.

I haven't posted anything publicly since that YouTube video I put up. But I'm hoping to do some more.

Honestly, I thought I would have more excitement for working on my DJing during this down time. But I've struggled to feel that excitement. I get so much of my energy around DJing from the energy that I get back on the dance floor. And my other excitement comes from executing as a business. With neither of those firing right now... its just been harder that I would have expected.

I've hopped on my gear for fun once or twice per week. But I'm hoping to put out some more content for consumption.

I know the Yam might not have USB audio output, but do you get the control of two separate outputs so your stream has different settings/outputs routed compared to what you hear?

I agree it's been a struggle getting excited. For me, it started with a mix I have been wanting to make for a year and now was the best time. Then people were like do it live, and so I did, and got so much positive feedback, that I did it again, and I have people hooked. That alone is exciting, plus people are very generous with tipping :)

Ross... i felt the same way in early march... then decided to stream for giggles... had people sending in videos and pics and tagging us on instagram... fully dressed up for the theme... dancing with my mix running through their tv and sound system at home... kids goin nuts ...dogs barking... people dressed in faux hazmat suits... it was honestly as good if not better than a live crowd at a party or wedding because you knew everyone chose to be there...

People really needed stuff like that throughout April and early May when it was truly scary...and they had no clue if we would ever go back to normal... we get dm's constantly thanking us...and hoping we do more in the future. But im set on getting back to live parties...so im gonna stop for now

I tested the OBS and SpinStream combo today. It's overloading the crap out of my computer... I wish I had another fast laptop for this.

Audio was too quiet in the beginning, and then I increased it in OBS. But it's still not very loud... I'm not sure where else I can boost it since it's taking a record out. I can add a bit more gain to each channel, but I'm missing something. There is some spot I should be able to add headroom.

I have an outboard sound card with volume control to give mine a boost...i actually run with my mixer out levels way down

do u have something like the yamaha mg10xu? that could give you a major boost

How are you routing that signal back to your computer though? I'm taking the S9's 3rd output which is a record/mix out directly. I'm not processing that again except on the computer. I'd need another interface for the computer to add it back separately.

Im not sure what you are asking... but i use the rx2 which is a stand alone... so i go out of my main out... into the outboard sound card... OBS picks it up as an audio in device... and im all set

EDIT: just reread what u said... the outboard sound card is a usb in... it has its own volume control
