image.jpeg Got an apple watch for Christmas. Love a lot of things about it. Some things need some work.

42mm sports watch. First and foremost, it's a comfortable, informative watch. Band is comfortable. Plenty of face options which are each customizable

Interacting with the watch is pretty easy. The digital crown allows quick scrolling or zooming. The watch also has 3-d touch, which allows for other options when the screen is pressed.

Sending a text is very easy. Can use pre-configured messages/replies or you can make a text message by voice.

Mostly however, I've used it to see a message quickly. If I need to respond something much more than OK or yes, I'll most likely grab my phone.

I've found the wrist vibration to be very handy with alarms / notifications. Very subtle in a meeting. Great for mc reminders.

Nightstand mode: putting the watch on the charger and on its side will activate this so the watch will display the time in big numbers but low light when touched. I like this a lot.

Love the apple pay feature. I've used it everywhere I can. This doesn't even need the phone near it.

I've uploaded 2gig of music to the watch so I can listen to music without the phone or a connection. Like tha

Sending my heartbeat or "writing a message " on the screen is more gimmicky than practical.

The watch is water resistant. Which means shower and hot tub OK. No deep sea diving.

What needs work:

The battery life isn't great. I've bought 2 extra chargers as one charge a day doesn't cut it. However the watch will go into low power mode which makes it just a watch. Also, in normal mode, The face turns off and will turn on when you look at it.

Messages sent from watch don't always go through. I've gotten "could not send" messages a number of time. I need to be able to rely on it.

While the speech to text works great, the "hey siri" function doesn't seem to work all that well. Trying to make a phone call from the phone doesn't always work either. Not really sure I'd ever use that though.

There are other small bugs too. Some apps crash on occasion.

Overall, I find it very helpful and am looking forward to seeing the improvements.

I give version 1 a 7/10

I'm still playing with mine. Haven't had good luck getting my registered credit cards on my phone to transfer to the watch. I like that I can control Music on the phone from the watch, iTunes on the laptop from it and it can control DJay on the iPad as well (all mostly basic start/stop, but iTunes/music allows playlist and song selection as well.

I dislike that I have to have it on my wrist to unlock it, as it's easier, while I'm figuring it out, to have it flat on the table, but then it doesn't unlock.

Need to finish customizing it with contact favorites and such.

I bought the cheapest version (aluminum, 42mm, gold/midnight blue) which came with a $100 Best Buy gift card, as I assume there will be a new verion this year with built in GPS and SIM card .. at least making it usable without a phone for basic tasks.

Steve, you have to select each credit card you want to go to the watch from the app. It won't automatically send all.

Yes I tried the Djay app remote. Works great. At a show however, I don't feel comfortable plugging my phone in without putting it in airplane mode. Which would kill the connection, no?

You can turn off the cellular connection (via airplane mode) but still have WiFi or Bluetooth still on.

They can probably order you one .. and pay for it too.

It can't make you a sandwich, but if you bought the pink polka-dot band for it, it would make you a cheese ball

Update: on my travels to Vegas last week, I found the watch very handy.

My boarding passes that I added to my apple wallet automatically appeared on the watch as my boarding time came near. I didn't even need to open the app. Just scan my watch and board. Very handy.

I walked about 35 miles over 3 days, according to my watch, so grabbing a water from the vending machines was super easy with the Apple Pay on the watch.

Uber, which is outstanding in Vegas, was not very useful with the watch. Had to go old school and use the smart phone:)
