For some time now I've had trouble with corrupted tags.... it didn't happen the moment I changed over to using a Mac instead of a PC but shortly after....

I think in trying to copy from NTFS formatted hdd to a Mac formatted hdd something go borked.... and files wouldn't load into VDJ players and in Traktor Pro they'd error up but, then would load if I dropped them on the same deck again.

I tried everything from re-saving the tags on my PC and then re-copying back to the Mac hdd... no Mas....

Finally I added my entire library to iTunes on my Mac and then re-saved the tags.... and voila it seems to be fine now.... I'm running on auto play and not one track has been skipped.

Whew!

Those using Macs for everything.... what is a good program for ripping CD's other than iTunes? I want something that works like Audiograbber.

sorry not a Mac man - PC anyday!

Rick will re-write them .. he constantly opines about how much he adores the Mac.

I think he's a 'closet Machead'.

C'mon out of the closet Ricky.

I actually have a Mac. It makes a fine paperweight IMHO. But it looks pretty, and fits in fine at Starbucks. Problem is, I don't go to Starbucks.

I'd say yer more likely to find me hanging with Haleem the hot dog vender, at the corner of 42nd street. Wonder if he has any new RPGs...? The last batch of HEAT rounds sucked wind -- they'd veer off course with a slight wind.

Curious what made you move from PC to Mac? I almost made the switch when my primary laptop failed last fall. I ended up staying with PC albeit tempted by a couple of DJs I collaborate with who are both into Mac and Native Instruments.

I went Mac because it simply works.... despite my MP3 issue which like I said was probably due to operator error on my part.

Let's put a comparison out there:

Installing a Denon MC6000:

PC Requires:
1. ASIO Drivers installed
2. Denon Midi drivers

Mac Requirements:
1. Move a switch on the mixer from PC to Mac

Simple plug-in-play... literally I was up and running, minus scanning my library, in 5 minutes.

I did say for a Mac didn't I?

Ummm...how about using...Audiograbber??

I've used Audiograbber almost from the start... just need a comparable program for the Mac... that I don't have to run Bootcamp in order to use.

I found an App and it works pretty good but, one thing audiograbber allows you to do is to tag genre for each track independatly from the global tag.... so, while ripping a CD of Aerosmith music is fine, trying to do a subscription disc with multiple genre's is a pain.... so the search goes on....

I could use iTunes but I hate that you can't name your tracks and store them as you see fit.... I don't want a bunch of directories with 10-15 songs all named like this: 01 - Jump.mp3 I hate that!

Ya, ya.... I know Traktor Pro will sort it all out by tags.... but, I do like an organized hdd too.... that is searchable without firing up a music program to read tags....
I told you but you did not listen. I do not let Traktor do auto sorting. I direct it to add to its Library collection the way I want. The same folders that are on my HD by Genres are the same Folder Names that Traktor utilizes. Hip-Hop, Rock, R&B, Country, Jazz etc. If you allow ANY program, especially iTunes to name your Genres, you will end up with tons of different Folders/Names.

Lets suppose you have a folder in your HD called Music Library/Rock and there are 500 songs, you then direct Traktor to use that Genre Name. Now when you go to add 10 more Rock songs in Traktor, go to Explorer in Traktor and open the HD Folder Rock and you will see the last 10 songs that are yet to be processed . Highlight the ten, Click Edit, In Genre Choose "Rock" and hit Apply and those songs will be Tagged as Rock. Then Click those same highlighted songs and hit "Add to collection" Voila, it is now in Traktor's memory Collection. You do it from one Explorer/HD Folder at a time.

If you have 26 Music Genre Folders in your HD then Traktor will also have 26 Music Genres in its Library Collection. If you need help, you know how to reach me.

How is that different from other apps? I create playlists by genre, decade, etc. in iTunes and they show up the same way in both PCDJ Red Mobile, Serato, and VDJ (I wish they did in Rockit as well ... and yes I have all of them). I can bulk retag, bulk change genre etc. in iTunes (or Tag&Rename if needed).

Well, that is sorta the point of DJ software -- don't ya think...?

I have no idea what folder some song is in. My MP3's are stored under the MP3 folder, and there's a ton of folders under that. Am I supposed to go looking for that?

No -- that's why I write DJ software. Makes it easy to find stuff. You build the library once, and everything is within a few ms reach. :)

I couldn't care less where it actually exists on the hard drive, as long as I can find it quickly, and put it into play within a second.
