Monograms & Projectors

I, personally, think that projectors are the way to go these days. Digital monograms are something you can make on your own even. A good projector with about 5k lumens is plenty bright. With vertical and horizontal keystone you can shoot from any angle. I think they are a lot more versatile than a source 4 or similar. Plus animated monograms are catching on as well. This is just another way to separate your services above and beyond the competition.

I have a projector, but if you needed to project a gobo very far, it doesn’t allow for a tight clear image over a distance like you might want to do with a monogram. Also, the size and shape of my BenQ projector makes it a little awkward to mount. There’s probably some newer and smaller models than mine, I just haven’t really looked at projectors for a few years. I was really into video several years ago, but have since lost interest.[emoji1]... too much gear to setup and operate. The music mixing keeps me busy enough at an event to add much more activity.

Anyone else?

Here's where I'm at currently

Projector
Pro: Make my own logos | possibly rent out for presentations
Con: May not be as bright as fixture

If I go projector .. I believe these are the following requirements:
Keystone adjustments (horizontal and vertical)
Contrast: 10k:1
Lumens: 5k or better
USB capabilities: maybe but not needed

Fixture:
Pro: Bright, sharp focused beam of light which can be adjusted (zoom) and cropped
Con: Must buy custom gobos, which depending on what they want, can be costly | no usb or computer interaction

I used to a source 4 Leko and down is the "real way" to do it, but I bought a good projector and lever looked back. 3000 lumens minimum and it's plenty bright.

Being able to make your own gobos, and even in color (if I want) goes a long way!

When shopping for a projector, make sure it has horizontal and vertical keystone so you can fix the distortion it will have if not optimal placement.

I like NEC as a brand for projectors. Very good picture and exceptional reliability.

Super easy to mount into projector crdble made that attaches to photo light stands-can be raised upto 10 feet.. It's super easy.

Also regadrding the media source, you can use any tablet's display connection right into the projector, so all you need is power drop since the tablet sits on the projector itself.

You want something like this--https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1381429-REG/smith_victor_405001_tether_tray_1612.html

Also, this is a super easy way too--https://csnl.com/products/video-projector-mount-systems

I just prefer he ones that just allow strap, although not quite as flexible as the CSNL mount (tilt wise). It's justs so darn fast to hook it up since you are not threading anything to a mount.

I still say get one with a connection that will allow it to adapt to a light stand.

Projctors these days are available as bright as needed. Like mentioned above, I recommend 5k lumens. Also some projectors will not power a thumb drive, so purchase an affordable micca media player or similar. These plug right into the inputs of your projector and will play any type of media file (jpg, png, avi, mov, etc). As far as image size, you can make or buy images in multiple sizes that will work for any space to be projected upon. Visit projectorgram.com it has stands, projectors, digital gobos, etc.

I've used 3k projectors for several years. To be honest, they don't pop (bright) as much as I'd like. A 6k might do better but honestly, I'm not even pitching monograms anymore. Seems nobody cares, at least around here. Now I have been thinking of investing in a couple of these 60w LED units from ADJ and using stock gobos in them. I've seen a couple of events where these were used with the gobo rotating and it was impressive. Of course, if you're looking to display the couple's name/logo then you're still back to burning plates.
