I am not sure exactly what I am looking for but what I need is a small mixer with a mic input and volume control. Very simple. I am currently using a Numark CM200-USB mixer but I am looking for something small to use for bar gigs and the like. The closest thing I have used is an m-audio 410 which I really liked. Does anyone have any experience with any mobile pre-amps? Any recommendations? I just want to go iMac-->sound card-->speakers with the ability to mix in a mic.

I am sitting here looking at one of my five backup mixers that is in each of my vehicles

It is slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes (3" X 5" X 1 1/2"), 4 channels (two 1/4 ins two RCA stereo ins) a single RCA out along with a headphone out, controls are simple just input levels for each channel. Works well with a wireless mic using the 1/4" input.

It is simple small and works in an emergency, but frankly I wouldn't perasonally use it for anything else, however with a computer source everything could be EQed in the computer so it wouldn't be too simple for that kind of work.

It is a Rolls Mini Mix 2 (MX51) However I don't even know if they are made anymore!

what about something like this. They come 2 channel also

I've been quite happy with the Fast Track Pro coming from my Vaio lap top to my MP-44, etc. I've also plugged in directly to my equalizer and amp and was quite happy with the sound. That system is now backup once I moved to another lap top and Denon DN-HC4500 that has it's own sound card.

Are you using a laptop or a desktop computer?

If you're using a desktop then the best you can get for a fairly reasonable price is the EMU 1616m. This is a PCI based card that plugs directly into the computer, and the breakout box for the mic inputs doesn't take up that much space.

this has 4 direct mic inputs that will accept xlr or 1/4" mics and the outputs can go straight into your amplifier.

You can do all the mixing and routing on your computer if you want.

I use my macbook for Djing but I want to start using my iMac for simple functions. This is why I just want something small and easy to go between my iMac and my power amp.

Oh well that's different. I guess any of the USB or firewire devices from m-audio would be sufficient then.

if you're not sure which one to pick, you could always read the user manuals online.
