How do you know accepting a check the day of under those conditions they are not giving you a check from a closed account?

I don't work with any clients that I worry about the check clearing...

Honestly I don't know how things got taken care of as far as us getting paid. All I know I got my part. They tried to explain it to me. I wasn't sure what they were talking about. If need be my partner could have taken care of it but she was there and she did it.
Being that this is your 'business', you should know exactly how and why things got taken care of the way they did .. and you should be prepared to do it the same way yourself.

My point was not accepting a check from a client the day of. Only way I would do that is I would have to know the client personally and know I have nothing to worry not getting paid.
I very clearly stated this already.

you're absolutely 100% right. Honestly I wanted to use a contract for this one but I didn't want to get into an argument with my partners GF about this. It was bad enough that she insisted that she come to the gig and went off on me about an issue with the guys Lavalier mic he was trying to use. The volume was too loud and I was trying to quickly adjust the volume. She yelled at me for what happened. The real problem to begin with is if he wanted to use that mic, at the event he should have let us set things up while we were setting up.

Her excuse for coming with us is she said she was the one who setup the deal for us to do. I have a different feeling why she came.

I don't know how someone can do things completely backwards so consistently. If you put the effort in to do things the right way that you do to do them the wrong way you'd be a f***ing millionaire

It's simple - it's not his fault, his concern nor his responsibility. Until he 'owns' this, it won't change.
