To be fair, the software is actually "ok".
I was an early adopter at the back end of the '90s, paying less than $50AU that has entitled me to free updates ever since. I actually stopped using it in 2011 when I started using DJ controllers with Serato.
OtsAV still contains some features that current DJ software cannot compete with. Its auto DJ mode is better than anything else on the market today and its built-in audio processing with AGC/compressor/limiter is still groundbreaking. It's also actually really reliable too.
The only downside is that it doesn't look great and updates are few and far between. The fact I still get emails asking me to buy new licenses is a bit annoying considering they don't really support any new technology. That said, I know DJ's who are still using it and still rave about it.
Would I ever go back to using it mainstream at events? No....but I do use it to create my own bespoke background music files, perfect for when you need to stick a 3hr mix on just to get you through a dinner event or similar.
As for the comment above "Let me know when thee's an update that will make the software actually work." - well, the software actually works now so i'm not sure exactly what you mean.
If you actually meant to say "Let me know when there's an update that will make the software work with today's controllers" then yep, I agree...I look forward to that day if it ever arrives. Having said that, you could plug it in yourself if you're happy to learn the code needed to make it happen. After all, it's just midi signals, and OtsAV has a built in API to allow you to map the signals from your controller to functions within the software, so it's not impossible.
