I don't mind paying for piece of mind. I am a professional and not a hobbyist after all. :)
Some apparently don't subscribe to that philosophy, so I like to call out things (when I see them) that might be a better alternative to something they would be looking at (cough cough Alto cough).

What is up with your hard on against Alto? I'm absolutely loving my new subs and Ricky apparently has had several years of good service from his units.

It's the new "Bose" (and I own an Alto speaker).

I've been thinking about getting a single DBR10 but I might go with an Alto TS210 instead.

Freddie, those are Yamaha and very well made from my understanding, utilizing cast frame woofers and other quality components. Have you ever seen photos of the cheap woofers used in some of the China built low-end subs? Oh and Indonesia is NOT China by any means.

Yes, there are a lot of junk products made in China, but I wouldn't lump everything including subs made in China as being junk. I look at it as a case by case thing and weigh its value with its intended application. I don't care where it is made as long as it is decent quality with a competitive price and the manufacturer supports it. I also don't mind spending higher prices for higher quality.

OK .. to clarify, why do I have a hard on against Alto ... it's not just Alto, Alto is just a flag bearer based on the discussions here and my comical foil.

I buy gear at all price levels and from most brands. Heck, I have bough at least 15 Behringer products over the years. I have Alto, Behringer and American Audio speakers. I bought a Phonic mixer years ago.

While I have had a dog or 2 from the better brands, I have a 50% or so track record of having either an issue or inadequate performance from the lesser brands. Mentioned before, I have had half my Behringer mixers break. My Alto speaker is useful (Traveler 12), but the construction is such that if it fell off my cart, the plastic would crack or shatter. Same with the AA ELSGO 8BT set I have. The Behringer B208d I use for a karaoke monitor just sounds sucky. They work, they don't sound spectacular, and the plastic and controls are very cheap.

While I won't argue that there may be a gem in the mix (the Behringer Sharc DSP units are such), the majority just aren't worthy of a "professional" designation. Will I still buy such things, yes, for niche uses and if there aren't decent alternatives (like the battery powered units), but in general, just say NO. :)

Just my informed opinion.

I would consider the made in China Yamaha DXR series as gems.

I have no issue with any of the Yamahas. I used to own a pair of S115 IV speakers years ago and they were well built and sounded great (limited only by the low power rating). The DXR and DSR series (even the DBR) are great sounding boxes. I have a pair of the DXS12 subs.

Mackies and CV have been hit or miss. The HD series I posted above were pretty good. I owned a pair of Mackie SRM450s and they were solid performers, though not quite "HiFi.

Listen, I don't want to get things into a pissing match .. Most current speakers sound acceptable (DSPs to the rescue) .. but SOMETHING gives below a certain price point. SO if you baby things and don't push them, almost anything will work, but if one is shopping for true working boxes, track records speak for themselves in most cases.

I regularly play through FBT MaxX 4a tops so when got the chance to play through a pair of DXR cab's, I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I was not at all impressed with the sound. They were really lacking the articulate mids & highs that I am used to from my B&C equipped FBT's. To each their own.

I found the DXR 10s to be very articulate.
