I came outside going to my doctors appointment and I was looking for my van where I parked it last night. It was gone. I called to talk to the police to see if it was towed. It wasn't. Someone stole it. A bunch of gear was in the van. I got the CC number and I just called the insurance company. I don't know what I'm going to do.

Maybe one of your partners are using your van Mixxy?

No jokes right now please. I'm so mad I don't want a Pepsi and that's my addiction. Just pray for me please. I'm not good with jail. I did talk to the insurance company and was told before they can put in a claim the police need to put it in the system as stolen and them they can file a claim. Get back to everyone later with more details.

Hopefully you have comprehensive coverage and could get something back from insurance based on what it is worth. Maybe it might turn up as sometimes a van can be used for a crime. Then they dump it right after. Report it stolen and hope it turns up. I wont mention how many people got equipment stolen leaving stuff in they car or van. Near me they are stealing jet skis from driveways. Of course if you put it in your backyard and lock in up, likely you be much safer.

Sorry Mixxy! I wasn't joking.
Hang in there man, you'll get thru this.
Thanks all. DJ Macho Man is on the shelf for now. I will figure a way to get back as a DJ. The bad part is I saw on Craigslist someone had the same controller I had and was considering buying it for backup. So right now that's canceled.

You sure it wasn't your controller? Hope you kept a record of serial numbers.

Sorry to hear Mix i hope it works out in the end

Have you filled the police report yet?

what is your deductible?

how much was the vehicle worth?

how much was the equipment worth?

The police came today and made a report. My deductible is $500. I don't know the book value and the equipment is worth quite a few thousand dollars.

Well, keep your eyes open. Often thefts like this are done by someone you know, or that at least knows something about you - a person who has seen what you put or keep in that van.

It's not unusual to walk through the neighborhood and find someone putting something out for trash that you know came from inside your van!

If you have a loan hopefully there is enough to payoff the loan as likely they don’t pay what you think they would. The equipment will likely be a lost unless you have it insured, maybe but I don’t think so the insurance will cover a little of what was in the vehicle.
Personally I’d consider it a chance to redo everything, get a car that makes sense and equipment which you can carry inside after each job.
Now if you had a legitimate business and you were filing and paying taxes on it you’d be able to write off the loss and write off all the new equipment. The whole thing would reduce your personal taxes.

Sorry to hear this Mixy. Not trying to be a jerk but are you current on your car payment? When a car is repossessed the tow company is required to report repo to local LE however they forget to do that.

Also realize that insurance companies take like 28-30 days to payout on a stolen vehicle.

Great advice. Small car, couple of ev8’s ….off and running To events he does

This is a perfect reason why you need to make money….and save money from just about any event you do….with extremely few exceptions.
if someone stole my car with equipment in it, it would suck, but I have plenty of backup equipment to do a show the same day. No events would be missed.

Customers that hire you need to be able count on you.

Here's the wild part. Yesterday the monthly payment was paid and the insurance. So that's a big whammy. So I got a call telling me they found the van in Irvington, NJ. I got the police report and went to MTS towing today where the van was at.

The lady for the insurance company told me to let Geico come and tow it. That way I didn't have to pay the towing and storage fees. So they will come and get it.

So the stuff in the van is gone. I got 2 wires that were left and that's it.

What they did was cut the steering wheel to get the club off and bust the ignition. I did see they messed up the passenger seat and they got the stuff out of there. I didn't have enough time to carefully look over the van because I was getting a ride and they were I'm a hurry. Lesson learned.

So I should have the van back soon I guess. That's it for now but DJ Macho Man is not giving up on DJing.
