I have a client who wants to have a 1960's British Pub Night with music videos.

Anyone know where I can get videos from this era?
RockAmerica, a former club video pool had a series of some of that era's video. I'm not sure if it ever made it past 3/4" and 1/2' videotape. You could check Promo Only and some of the other digital pools for greatest hits content from that era. These pools will have rerecorded video content which is likely far better than any of the older releases done in the 80's Mtv era.

What you really want is modern reworks - because video from that era was not a deliberate creation. The majority of it comes from TV appearances, and motion pictures. Promotional video just didn't exist back then, it's created from press coverage, news reports, documentary films, or variety show reels. Depending on the age - the original source is often film not video.

I may have some of the original U-Matic copies on a hard drive somewhere, but I can only recall one 50's/60's themed mobile gig where I ever got to use it.

The content is definitely out there in someone's distribution channel. If this is a private event you'd be smarter to just use YouTube, Vimeo or some other online streaming service especially if there's a content provider compatible with your DJ mix software.

There's at least one DJ on this site who consistently uses video content - and I'm sure he's likely to have found a source and will likely also chime in.

Proformance DJ Extraordinaire, thank for your reply. The event is a public event. They do not want YouTube videos. I contacted Promo Only and they don't have any videos in my search. I understand that music videos as we know them today may not have existed back when, beside the ones taken from TV shows. I posted hoping that someone may have suggestions in regards to this matter. Thanks for your help.

If it's a public event then either you or whoever is hosting/promoting it needs a performing license for the video content. It is separate and not covered by the ASCAP or BMI music performing license. This is why in video night clubs we had to have discreet licensing from whatever distributor or pool that provided us the content.

Some of the content on YouTube is consistent with the videos I acquired from the pool. Some of which originated with European sources. You'll just have to checkout the various pools like SmashVision and the many others to find out what they have for inventory.

One of the best and most complete collections that you will find anywhere is called Xtendamix.

It is a subscription service with quality videos all available to download in .MP4 format. There are terms and conditions to be a part of this service, so read and understand everything carefully.

I agree with Cap I've been with Xtendamix a dozen years or more if you need it and it's available they probably have it. There's over 1000 50's and 60's videos there
