ON a FB group someone, as usual, asked "where do I start to get music" and it was suggested marketplace or craigslist and buy CD 'collections' from people.

Interesting idea...poster claimed to get CDs as cheaply as eight cents a piece!

I didn't do nearly that well, but locall got 53 CDs for $20, and via FB got a lady in SC to send me 66 cds for $33 w/ shipping...so total less than 50c a CD, or what, a nickel a song?

The SC lady's CDs were a great get - Now that's what I call music 1-15, lots of 'hits' and 'dance' and 'electronic club music' - stuff I don't have and will certainly use.

Yeah, 15-20 of the CDs are well, weird and useless. Not sure anyone ever asked me for anything by melissa etheridge (now have 2 cds worth in case..), american idol season 2...aqua (?), a few xmas CDs, a shania twain I had. Chumba Wumba album, not sure how I lived without that LOL. Already had tubthumping but now I have the ALBUM TOO!

Much of the NTWICMusic disks I have the bigger hits, but it's nice now to fill in the blanks from the 90s and early 2000s.

Of course ripping 119 or so CDs takes a while...

When I'm looking, if I need it, I'll get it - and I manually enter everything. I've spent way too much time trying to correct the errors the online db's make.

For quality CDs, I shoot for less than $4 .. For bulk loads, about $.50-$1

At this point, I find just buying the mp3s I need to much more efficient than buying any CDs

Exactly. The time it takes to rip a CD just isn't worth it anymore, especially for songs you might never play anyways. When's the last time somebody requested an OLD song you didn't have?

I find I have holes for a bunch of 80s/90s artists. And ripping a CD takes little time unless you're standing there waiting for it to finish. For a lot of earlier music, I prefer the CD versions .. especially for "album" material, where the transitions between songs aren't always there in mp3s.

Oooohh....when I started ripping all my CD's back in 2000, my OCD brain made me manually enter all the tags....spent MONTHS at the start and more time keeping my music updated.

IMHO it was all worth it! But with Google Play Music gone, it's getting really hard BUYING mp3's...had to switch to Amazon and I Tunes...

I do that as well...but I have holes in my collection (i bought out a wedding DJ that had CDs). first wedding I found out i didn't have footloose. Surely everyone has that, right? HS Musical 2, had that. Hannah Montana Hoe Down? Yeah, had that too. Odd.

This saturdays' wedding she wants dinner hour to be country love songs (it's ONLY country music the whole night unless I get a request).
And while she's in her late 20s, she wants 80s/90s country.

OK, so I don't quite have enouhg, but hey, someone must have made a country love song cd/collection, right? Yep..amazon has it, 75 songs for $12, free shipping - BUT ONLY ON CD! Argh. Ripping it now.

I have the 'hits' from 98-2003, but not ALL the songs. I wasn't paying much attention to dance music then- was having babies, working on the house, etc. So I don't personally remember...the big hits (nelly it's hot in herre) of course, but on the Music Now CDs I know 3 or so out out of the dozen on there...so when I go looking for stuff I'll have a lot more to draw from. And that time frame seems to be the biggest now in bars/weddings I've been doing. Last wedding on the DNP list was mambo no 5...it's on disk4 I think.

I see several songs on them by haddaway, gina g, deborah cox...never heard of them. Never go look for them. Other stuff I know/have - backstreet boys, whitney houston and others I have heard of but don't have anything of toni braxton, ace of base, run-DMC, I have one notoriuos big...and I do have mark morrison return of the mack which is requested surprisingly (to me) often. There is a triple CD of pop songs 76-99 - i now have a fiona apple song! (didn't know I needed one, but you never know!)

it's a LOT quicker to let amazon or whomever put 75 songs on a disk than me looking up that many love songs, and $12 is way better than $1.29 a pop!

First .. if 'it's ONLY country music the whole night', then nothing you've brought up is Country. I also find it hard to believe that 75 'quality' songs will be on a disc for $12 ($0.16 per song)

Be careful with those albums/collections. Many of them are re-recorded versions by the original artists... made long after the songs were hits. You'll likely notice that many of the songs just don't sound the way you remember them.

This is a conglomeration from the 60's to about 9 years ago (and is 'about' 5 hours of music) - with a few hits, some no hits and 'other songs' from hit artists. As stated by others and myself, be VERY alert to the fact that these may be re-recorded versions. Rule #1 is in effect. If you're relying on this to be your 80's / 90's hits, you will miss the mark. IceBurghDJ,

Why would you accept or seek to get paid for a service that you, self-admittedly, are unprepared and, at best, ill equipped to perform successfully?

Imitating Mixmastermachoman is no way to garner respect and satisfied clients.

You and, more importantly, your client and audience would be much better served if you teamed up with a DJ that has the relevant experience and legit country library to help you deliver in a professional manner.

All of the songs on the "Country Love Songs" set appear to be from the 1950s and 1960s. If your bride is looking for 80s/90s country, that's not going to cut it.

The tracklist on that other set (Top 100) is all over the place. A Spotify playlist would be better.

WTF?

You might as well say never take another event because you may not have a song they want...

I don't believe i EVER said i don't have 80/90 country...did I?
The want 90 minutes of country love songs...hence buying a CD. I MIGHT have had the songs...I know I don't have every country song ever recorded.

I did a school dance 2 weeks ago - had to get about 30 songs for it...should I have turned that down because I had to get those 30 songs? Ridiculous.

All I said was a great way to start/fill out a library, cheaply, is to buy CD collections for pennies on the original dollar.

I'm RURAL here...you don't get no spotify where there wedding is, or most weddings here, or probably 1/2 the country, even in the towns.
