Bottom line .. if you put up a website, you REALLY need to know what it is you are offering, how you plan to provide the services, what you plan to charge, and how you will market it. All those things don't go on a website, but they are all important in understanding what your business actually is.

Pretty pictures only go so far.

But I'm sure Macho's business plan will guide him correctly ..

@rickryan.com offered to build you one free of charge...Actually I believe he did build it and you snubbed him

I just got a call from someone who builds sites but they wanted too much. $64.99 a month and you got to agree to 12 months. After that you can decide if you want to keep paying the monthly fee.

I called 1 & 1 and to build the site for 5 pages is $600. $5 a month to host the site and that includes making changes to the site yourself. That sounds great!

My question is in 2 parts. Is that a good deal and what content should be on the site to attract people to want to book you. I had 2 websites up but neither one did any good. Nobody contacted me ever.

NO .. as we said, get a domain hosted and just redirect it to a Facebook business page (free to make) .. the hosting and redirection should be less than $10 a month. YOU will have to manage the Facebook page.

I hate to discourage you...just because i would really enjoy to hear how it inevitably turns out... but....

No web designer can magically make your company look professional without you first taking all the steps to become a legitimate business... that starts with your appearance....your set up....your photos....events....video.... you have nothing (atleast that youve shown us) that would attract a new customer.... NOTHING

So what does a web designer use to sell you as an entertainment company? Videos from pond 5? google search dj / dancefloor photos? You guys have to get some real gigs and real event experience before you can sell that dream to the public...at this stage its all a dream

That’s insane to pay that much for a small site when you when don’t even get paid much to do a event. How many events would you have to do to make $600? How many of your clients would actually look for you via a website? And finally what would you even put on the website?
At your level use your Facebook business page, Twitter & YouTube. What is amazing is the ones with the least working capital want to spend the most. Personally I’d be working on referrals & some nice business cards and or postcards. But then again you have to have good phots to put on them.

Both are way overpriced. You need to understand the types of companies you're dealing with. The $65/mo company likely retains the rights to the design and goes bye bye if you decide to stop paying $65/mo after the year. At the end of the year you spent $780 and if you cancel likely have nothing to show for it.

1&1 is very big in the hosting space. They used to do more business in Europe than the states. I haven't used their services in years and don't know what they're doing now. Understand that a majority of their 'design work' is pre-made templates with outsourced 'copywriters' who know nothing about DJing plugging in passable blobs of text. $600 is very expensive for this type of work. You could pay a college student $100 (probably less) to bang out a better site in an afternoon and host for $5/mo at 1&1, or GoDaddy, or any other host.

As mentioned before your best bet is to register your name with GoDaddy or 1&1 and redirect it to a free Facebook page. If and when you start doing enough business to need a full website, you would be much better served paying someone from here who has offered to help you than dealing a large design house where there is usually a catch.

Mix, you are getting advice from people that own websites and some that get paid to build websites. For heaven's sake, take Dan's advice.

You need bigger speakers more than you need to pay for a new website. At least those you could later sell to someone after you never use them.

~tosses on the good ol' ODJT DA hat~

Yeah .. but these people here don't really know what they're talking about .. I mean c'mon, these businesses that Mix is talkin' to have people to pay - and they need to make a little profit.

@MIXMASTERMACHOM I'll make you a deal, buy a domain name (ex: mixmasteradrian.com, mixmasterkingofnewark.net, etc). You should not pay anymore than $12 per year I personally use Google Domains at $12/yr but GoDaddy and NameCheap are usually a little cheaper the first year. I'll host the domain name and email for you. We can start out with a Facebook redirect and a couple of email addresses.

A little down the road when you're ready my provider has templates you can use for free just plugin your information. If you decide to have someone from here help you or hire someone else I'll do what I can to make things easy for yous. Best of all your website won't be held hostage because of something buried deep in a service contract.

There's a few people here that are my clients. It's not my place to mention their name but my hosting is generally trouble free. This is what I do for a living. I know my job.

@Big Dan , how much is your hosting?, my domain renews this month actually for $17 I think it is( from GoDaddy)

While I cant vouch for his hosting, he knows his stuff, he held my hand and helped my get my website up and running, this is a very generous offer he is making you, I would take it.

Mix: I need some advice.

ODJT: Here's some advice.

Mix: I reject your advice.

ODJT: Here's some more advice.

Mix: *starts new topic in forum

LOOKING FOR A REASONABLY PRICED DJ IN NORTH JERSEY...

I just got a call from a DJ in North Jersey. $64.99 an hour, and you have to agree to 12 hours. That's ridiculous!

I called 1 and 1 DJs, and they told me 5 hours for $600 all inclusive. Just pay $5 for them to park their car. That sounds great!

My question is in two parts. Is that a good deal? And what songs should the DJ play to make everyone dance? I had 2 DJs playing music before, but neither one of them did anybody any good. Nobody contacted me after seeing them perform!

Thanks for thinking of me Johnathan. For static websites and email I charge $9.99/mo or $99/yr. For CMS powered sites (WordPress, Concrete5, etc) and email it depends on how involved I need to be. If you're going to maintain your own updates and I'm just hosting; It's $14.99/mo or $149/yr. If I need to maintain the install that starts at $29.99/mo or $299/yr and up depending on complexity and how much dedicated time you need.

It looks like you can take care of your own maintenance with an occasional hand from me. That would run you $14.99/mo or $149/yr. Let me know if you're interested or your need something customized. I'm always happy to work with you.

Thank you Dan, I was just being curious, seeing what all the different options are out there.

And Mix....
don't forget the final piece of the puzzle.
Once you finally get your website up and running...
YOU NEED TO PROMOTE THE WEBSITE!

A website doesn't attract clients all by itself.

You can have the slickest site in the world...
but if no one knows it's there....no one will find it.

Mix I would go with Dan's offer but if you really want to spend money for $600 +$5/ month I'll buy you a domain of your choice, build and maintain your site for a year, have it hosted and do SEO for you...Trust me you can do much better...Like Dan's offer

YOU will have to manage the Facebook page.

Not necessarily I've had a few clients that paid me well for a post a day and some much more
