I know JBL is a good reputable brand and I have heard DJ's with the old JBL EON 515XT's and I thought they sounded great. I just haven't had a chance to hear these new EON's yet. I'm going to see if a local Guitar Center has a pair I can hear. Plus I like the bluetooth aspect as an added bonus.

They're probably fine, though I might recommend the Yamaha DXR12 in that price range. Very nice sounding and seem to be rugged enough (was in use by a number of rental houses for events in Vegas). The DXR12 can be had for $560+shipping.

I have to be honest, when I bought my QSC K10s, I did a side-by-side comparison between the JBL PRX, JBL EON10 and the K10. The PRX was weak and bland-sounding. The K10 was crisp and plenty of punch. However, the EON shocked the heck out of me at how punchy it was and there was relatively little sound difference between it and the K10. The EON ran about $330/ea and I paid $650/ea for the K10s. Looking back, I really wish I'd bought 4 of the EONs instead of 2 of the K10s.

I'll look into those as well. I'm not sold on anything yet. Trying to be more cautious this time around. With the Mackie's I was sold on the cool features and the light size. This time around I want decent sound at a decent price. If they are a little bigger so be it.

Cool good to know. I looked at the QSC's but they are a little more pricey.

Don't know which PRX you looked at, but when I compared a number of years ago, it was down to a QSC K12, the JBL PRX612 and the recently (then) introduced EV ELX112. The EVs had a default DJ voicing (pumped up highs and lows), the QSC seemed to have an exaggerated mid and the JBL was fairly flat. I went with the JBL as I planned (and did) use them as floor monitors and for live sound use. They have been rock solid. Unfortunately, the new ones (PRX700 series) went back to a ferrite magnet and gained about 10 pounds per box.

It was the 700-series (710 & 712). Those boxes were totally anemic. Had them cranked wide open and both the EONs and K10s were about 35%. Like I said, the EONs totally surprised me and cost about half what the QSCs did. Looking back, I'd rather have 4 of the EONs than the pair of K10s I now have.

I love love love my EV ELX112P Speakers. Yes it does have a bass/treble boost button but the other side of the switch is a flat setting which I prefer as I prefer to EQ my setup using my system EQ. These speakers rock and the output SPL is loud enough to go without a sub if you really had to..

I have the ELX112P's and the ELX118P's. They are my main indoor system. I also have the K12's. Imo, the K12's have more power (and they have the cooling) .. but the ELX112's sound better.

I'm not a fan of 15s on sticks .. and I've had some (Yamaha S115IV, JBL MP215). They look too top heavy on a spindly tripod or sub stand (in my opinion of course).

They are, however, more versatile in that they can be used without subs and still have a decent sound. I do run my 12s without subs at times and they definitely could use a little help.

The newer EONs look SOOOOOO much better than the older ones and JBL makes a good product, so I'm sure they sound fine.

Out of curiosity .. it seems the 615 is cheaper than the 612 for some reason at Amazon. BTW, you can get the 612 for $366 and the 615 for $406 (plus shipping). That's a price from Northern Sound and Light in Pittsburgh .. I'm sure others will match.

When I went to northern sound and light's website it showed $499 for the 615. Did you apply a discount code or call them?

I totally agree with this! I have gone both routes with 15s and 12s and have to say that I will not go back to 15 in based speakers. There is too much gap IMHO for decent mid-range (talking in generalities of course). A high quality 12 inch driver sounds so much tighter than most 15 inch based full range speakers I find. I leave it to my variety of subs to do the bass duty and supply the bottom end. I too have used my 12s w/o subs and they do a bang up job in smaller venues. Something to consider....

I'm also in the 12's camp, smaller if using subs, one of my favorite systems I use is my Yamaha DXR10's over DXS15's. don't get me wrong I love big loud sound but it's not appropriate everywhere, I also have 4 QSC HPR153i's that I run over 6 QSC HPR181i's that I love to use in the right circumstance,

After some listening to different speakers last night I'm starting to lean towards getting a pair of QSC K10's. They sounded great, they are extremely light, and they have a 90 degree dispersion angle. Plus if I buy these I can add this on to it and get rid of my light tree.

I hope you don't use that light set up it speakers and lights need to be set at completely different height to be effective speaker 6 to feet I prefer my lights to a minimum of ten if the height is available

On the outset, that mounting bar is probably going to be more trouble than it's worth. Besides, a K10 is pretty lightweight and not exactly a cabinet I'd want to have multiple lighting fixtures balancing off of it. Even in that example pic on amazon, I'd say the lights weigh more than the speaker does and it's only a plastic collar that mounts on the pole. And keep in mind those lights pictured are not what I'd call "pro-quality". They're mickey-mouse fixtures that won't bolster your image as a professional. Just my opinion mind you.
