Just re-opening this subject. I'm about to let my TK ad lapse. Don't want to keep paying $200/month to stay listed. Oddly enough, all of a sudden, I've had 2 leads in the past few days. Now while it's true, these could be legitimate leads that just happened to come in right before the ad contract expires. However, I've noticed this from a few different sites that generate leads. I'm about 90% certain they fake leads in order to try and entice you to renew. Maybe this is completely obvious to everyone else and maybe I'm just being a conspiracy theorist. What do you think about it? Do they fake leads or not?

I have gotten probably 30 leads form thumbtack of all places in the last couple weeks $10-$15 per lead to quote if you want to

Worthwhile leads?

Thumb Tack sucks in my area. Hundreds of DJs are on there locally. My brother blew $100 on there, not a single booking. He was trying to be as careful as possible with the leads he sent a bid to.

I spent $60 on there like 3 years ago...Figured it wasn't worth blowing more.

Rick,

What is strange is my free Wedding Wire account received message lead out of no where last month. Then the very next day I had sales reps call my phone, and shoot me an email wanting to re connect to discuss getting me back as a customer. ...VERY suspicious. I mean, what are the odds, when I hadn't had a wedding wire lead come in the past 6 months prior to that?

Also, yes, you are spending too much on the knot. ...I am trying The Knot right now...2 leads, 38 customers have seen my store front, and no bookings so far. 4 months into it now. I need 3 weddings from it to consider keeping it another year.

That's pretty well what I've seen. Over 6 years with WW and 2 years with TK. The pattern always seems the same. Somewhere around renewal time and there's this flurry of leads, then the sales call. Now don't get me wrong, I have gotten jobs off these sites. I've decided to continue with WW but I'm dropping TK, merely because it's not producing positive income. It's basically breaking even.

It's called "astro-turf" and yes, there is a lot of fake content and lead generation online to make the grass look greener at every inch of the internet from commerce, to politics and even research. Believe it or not - people's Facebook and online dating profiles are more honest than a lot of other web content.

It seems to suck here to in AZ, if I can ever burn through the $11 I have left I am deleting the account, the issue I am seeing is quotes are not getting viewed.
