Last night I went to a Halloween party and had a good time.

I went to Butler, NJ for a Halloween party. It was a $5 suggested donation. The DJ was very good. I loved that he got to play some songs that I wish I could play at an event. 2 of the songs were Sweet Caroline and Cotton Eye Joe. Those are 2 great songs! My thing is because I'm black people think I'm not supposed to like such songs. One guest said that's white music. To me good music is good music.

There's a lot of stuff I have to play that I wish I didn't have to play. My job is pleasing the client and their guests. The one thing I didn't like is he played a few songs with explicit lyrics. That's something I do my best to stay away from. Occasionally I will slip up but I quickly switch songs.

I don't know the DJs name because I didn't ask. He did tell me the setup he was using wasn't his. I told him I don't give a damn it was very nice. 4 EV subs and 2 EV tops. It was a small room with a small group of people attending the event but he controlled the sound very well. It wasn't overkill like some DJs would do trying to impress the crowd. It wasn't even 15 people but they had a great time. One lady who won the costume contest gave me a hug thanking me for coming. I was just looking at more opportunities to possibly get more work and that's why I came and gave out a few business cards.

I love that family birthday parties in your world are 30 dollars to get in...but this one was a "suggested" $5

That was pretty tacky of you to hand out business cards at someone else’s event. If I were the organizer and got word you were doing that, i would give you your $5 back and send your ass packing and kicking rocks.

no class

There you go with your crazy S### again. It was an event for the 12 step program I'm a member of. The last event we did the client which was my best friends niece paid for all the people she invited and I invited the lady I was talking to at the time. So she wasn't someone she invited and that's why it cost me the money it did. It wouldn't be fair for me to invite people not her list of guests and have her pay.

They weren't able to come and I still didn't sweat it. It was $60. Big deal. You would have had a fit I bet. I just let it go and moved on. I was dealing with family.

I know we bust each other's chops regularly yet let me ask this serious question. If you don't hand out business cards what do you hand out?

Wow, 4 EV subs and 2 EV tops for a crowd of 15 people ? Wowzers! #OVERKILL
No it wasn't. The DJ knew how to set things up so it wasn't overkill. It sounded great! The DJ didn't know how many people would show up. The same with me. I don't always know how many people to expect to see at an event I'm doing. I just show up with what I need to get the job done right.

Hey mix I tell people to add me on Instagram or Facebook. I actually don’t use cards anymore
Thanks Taso because I need to get up with social media more for the business. I was asking Chris what he does he do?

As Taso said... AT MY OWN GIGS...WHERE PEOPLE ARE SEEING WHAT I DO AND WANT MORE INFORMATION...i normally send them to Instagram... i have cards as well... with my social media info on them. But havent handed one out in over a year... and that was to an older person who didnt know what instagram was...

We are in a different age... an age where flirting teenagers dont ask for a girls number....they ask for snapchat handles... or instagram handles... if you are the dj everyone seems to know and be in awe of as youve told us on occasion....then your fan base has probably allready attempted to find you on social media without ever asking you for anything

As said before....the main problem is that you were passing out cards at another djs event...its just bad form

Is it still tacky to hand out business cards at someone else's event if the email And website on the card are incorrect?

Asking for a friend.

My guess is for 15 people in a small room, my S1 would sound better than 4 subs and 4 speakers.

I recall setting up at a venue several years ago. One of those multiple room places. I was setting up in the main ballroom. About 200 people. Right across from me was the smallest room. I was setting up my l1 and these 2 guys were bring in 4 big tops and 4 big subs, and a huge rolling rack of gear in the middle. They kept looking in at my set up as they came by with their dollies. I glanced in their room when I was done. There were 4-8 person tables in this small room. 1 speaker and sub per table😄

These guys were white, BTW😄

I don't get into labeling music racially. I play both kinds of music. Country AND Western😄
