My partner just bought a pair of Mackie 1801 subs from my DJ buddy JJ the master DJ. He had a pair of the Mackie 1801 subs. I know they are discontinued. We went to his house and listened to them. I talked my partner into checking them out because I've known my frien for almost 19 years.

I wanted him to check them out instead of buying one of the Harbinger subs. He checked them out and decided to buy them. My friend sold them to him for $750 for the pair. My buddy wanted $800 but because of us being good friends he let him have them for $750.

In my opinion they are much better than the Harbinger sub. Here's a picture of the 2 subs. Front and back.

The way I see it is the one Harbinger sub is on sale for $630 and we got those 2 subs for $120 more for the one Harbinger sub. They are not light at all. My partner said he would get a couple of dollies to move them since they don't have wheels on them.

you REALLY should do your research before buying. This was one of Mackie's worst speakers. Extrmeely cheap components, which many complain causes the speaker to prematurely cut out and fail. And worst of all, they limit very easily the moment these start getting warm or once you start pushing the speaker even just a little bit (terrible for outdoor events). I mean I get the attraction for the price point... but don't give yourself high hopes for long term use on these.

Good luck, hope they work out as you hope for them to.

I was just going to post the exact same thing, and they are now old enough that you can’t get some of the parts to repair, if it breaks it’s pretty heavy to lift into the dumpster

Adrian, What are the letters in front of 1801 for the model number of the subs? What is the weight of the subs. Maybe you can track down some dollies with locking casters. Makes moving around much easier.

They are the Mackie HD 1801 subs and not the Mackie Thump subs.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink!

Mix, do us all a favor. Don't come on here posting about how they are too heavy, you and your buddy hurt your back or pulled a muscle trying to move them around. Or that you are re selling them because they are too heavy and you all don't bother using them because of the weight lol.

There will one post with how amazing these sound then nothing, they will be left to rot away in a damp basement somewhere or left in a van and stolen

Someone has posted many times that mackie is junk. Now he buys Mackie.
Don't get it!
I've never owned anything from Mackie save for an analog mixer that I didn't keep for very long.

I've rescued or rented to DJs who had issues with Mackie speakers but, honetly if you take the time to watch and listen to what these same DJs are trying to make the equipment do - it may be unfair to blame the gear.

I had a couple pairs of the original Makie SRM 450’s, the Italian built ones, they were solid and reliable and were a good speaker for their time

Let me say my partner tested them out in my buddies house and so far ok. We will have to see how they are in a real application. Certainly we will be using them in Branch Brook Park this year for the event we've done over the years. That will be the real test. My partner said he might get a couple of more subs. My buddy has a pair of EV dual 15" speakers I believe that my partner are interested in buying. I will need to get the model number of the speakers. We'll see how things go.

So Mixxy, If I understand you post you didn't buy the speakers
No my partner bought them. I was just there. They both helped to get the speakers in the van and I drove to my apartment. We took the speakers out the van and put them in the living room. That's where they are now.

So mismatched subs??? Have you learned nothing from this forum over the years???

I didn't say anything about me buying more subs. That's what my partner was talking about.

Tomorrow I have to meet up with the guy that's a promoter. He has a bunch of stuff he wants me to check out to see if I'm interested in anything. He was planning to throw stuff in the garage and decided to see if I wanted some of the stuff. He said he has a duplicator, speakers and some other stuff. I will see what's what.
