I wanted to test a pair of headphones and knowing the computer my kids use had iTunes on it I plugged them in and clicked on a track.

The headphones were broken, but when I expected the track to end it segued (mixed) directly into the next track in the playlist with a radio quality segue that was better than the current version of Ots-DJ. OUCH !!

I was so surpirsed by hearing the drum kick of the next song come in perfectly over the tail of the previous song I had to try it again just to make sure I wasn't imagining things.

Score one more for the computers.

Even still....

He is correct compared to Ots DJ Boombox the crossover is much smoother... and less abrupt.

I'll be upgrading to Ots AV but for now what I have still has more features than iTunes... so I'm in no rush to switch back to that or even winamp for DJ'n.... now Karaoke on the other had Winamp with AutOKdj has Ots AV's butt kicked.

I haven't yet tested my OtsAv, but the regular auto-dj segues in the last Ots upgrade (the one that added auto-beat mixing) absolutely sucked!

Whatever Ots did to the program in that previous upgrade ruined the algorithm that was so nice in the original program. I had become accustomed to using Ots at trade shows and places where I didn't have a dance floor.

The first time I took out the upgrade - it was horrible! I had to switch back to pre-recorded background CDs because the Ots mixes were routinely late - allowing the previous track to almost completey fade out.

By comparison with that version - the iTunes mix blows Ots away!

I'll let you know what happens when I give the AV version a working trial. But I doubt they fixed the problem - maybe that's why all the add-on modules suddenly became "freebies" ??

If the problem still exists in AV I'm going back to the old program for music and getting something else to do karaoke and video.

I'm not recommending iTunes for DJing - just pointing out that if the software that resides in everyone's iPod is that good at segues - then it's just one more item on a growing list of reasons you don't need to hire a DJ.

Try Quintessential player. You have a lot of control in the preferences to set how you want songs to fade out and into the next song. It's a very good program. Simple to learn, powerful and amazingly it's free to download. Not shareware, it's freeware. There are tons of skins that have been made for it too. It has an EQ section, a bunch of preset EQs and there are various plugins that add functions, but no Karaoke yet. It's simple to load folders of music as a playlist and CDs can be played too. I don't own an Ipod and I wouldn't have iTunes on my PC. When I buy another mp3 player it won't be an ipod. I tried itunes once a while back and I really didn't like the way it wanted to take over control. I don't like proprietary things. I don't like Quicktime either. I won't have Realplayer on my PC either.

I'm not familiar with Quintessential player. Does it come with spyware?

Reason I ask... I know Real Audio/Player does. Run a spyware scan and it comes up. Remove the spyware and the Real apps don't work anymore.

That's just my experience anyhow. :)

Nope, no spyware or anything else. I've tried it several times over the years and just recently tried it again. This version is very stable and solid, more than I can say about winamp. I even had some weird bugginess with Yahoo Jukebox and Mediamonkey. If you try Quintessential player YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED.

I think it has better sound quality than Windows Media Player and it's simple to learn and operate. That's why I used it at my event instead of PCDJ. Quintessential player is just simple and less complicated. You need to use it for a while and get acquainted with it and how it works of course. It's not perfect, just a decent program and an easy way to DJ without learning a complicated, expensive program. It's not a DJ program, just a media player, but it can be used to do a simple DJ show. I'm still going to use PCDJ, but Qplayer is a good backup.

Actually what Toqer has is a plug-in that several people have helped to develope to suit the needs of the 7 Bamboo karaoke bar he KJ's at... it was mostly designed for fully automating the karaoke process from singer song requests, rotation handleing all the way to but excluding calling the darned singer to the stage... but, it is fully user configurable to suit the needs of many KJs... I myself have developed a way for it to automatically handle rotations much the way a KJ might on paper but instead I let the software do it... couple that with the front end and I've got an very singer friendly system that I don't have to mess to much with except to get those darn singers to pay attention and come up when it's their turn.
