My ego is like a good speaker cabinet.
As long as it's portable who cares how big it is.

Let me please say this and this is why for me it's confidence and not ego. I was 19 years old in college and fooling around with some gear. A friend told me I would never be a DJ. That motivated me to want to be a DJ because he said that. At 23 I became a permanent employee and I started buying gear to become a DJ. I thought that it would be easy to become a DJ. I didn't know all the hard work and dedication it took to become a really good DJ. I just figured it's all about playing music. It's more to it then that. I had to learn high quality gear vs junk, know what music to play for a certain crowd and how to read a crowd. Those things are very important to becoming a DJ along with other things.
I got my music from going to club Zanzibar and listen to the music the DJs played. I went to the record store and bought the same records they played. I would come home from work at 11PM and practice for a few hours till it was time to get some sleep most nights. I didn't have to be back at work at that time till 3PM. I used to do the same mixes I heard the DJs play in Zanzibar. Eventually I developed my own style and when I felt I was good enough I went and did events for people including the school I worked at back then. I used to spend $75 every payday on records. When I finished my first time after 13 years, I had 22 crates of records.
When I came back this time I thought it would be easy to pick back up where I left off. I was certainly wrong! I had to work hard all over again practicing as much as I could when I could and things are night and day from when I first came back. I was just determined to get back to being good again. My point is if you want to be good at something you got to want to work hard to get there and that's what I have done. Of course I've made mistakes along the way. That's just being human. Yet my passion was there for what I love to do. That's why I don't allow nobody to put me down for what I do. I'm not the best at it, yet I'm not the worst either. I beleive I'm damn good at what I can do and proud of it. Don't let my age 62 fool you. Now that's why for me it's confidence and not ego. That's just the short version.
I have members on here that think because I'm an olg that I can't be good anymore. I just wonder why some on here are afaid of answering the question? it's either one or the other.I don't think anyone here questions your passion or ability Mix it's your common sense we are concerned about
Good at what? Good at knowing 40 year old club music? Probably good at that. Good at being able to function as a mobile DJ today?? Different story.I have members on here that think because I'm an olg that I can't be good anymore. I just wonder why some on here are afaid of answering the question? it's either one or the other.
Lol you are the only one who wont answer questions. Not one person has every said because you are old you cant be good. What we have said is your issue is you inability or willingness to play anything besides 30-40 year old music.I have members on here that think because I'm an olg that I can't be good anymore. I just wonder why some on here are afaid of answering the question? it's either one or the other.
