These came up on a search in eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/190928361125?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I have a pair and they are some of the sweetest sounding speakers out there. $1200 for a pair is a great price (assuming they are as listed) as they are $1200 a piece new. They don't work as well for a small dance floor, as the Unity horn needs some space (at least 12-15') for all the sound sources to mesh, but give them room to work and they are great. I have covered 500 people with these.

Mine will also be coming up for sale as I scale back from my live sound gigs, but if you are local (they said no shipping) and are looking for a large set of speakers, you may want to investigate. BTW, they have been up several times without a sale (I assume because of the no ship), so you may be able to cut a better deal.

As I said, mine will be for sale as well if I am closer. :) DJ Johnthe1 already has dibs on the subs and amp.

I've got 4 Yorkville E210's now. They sell new for about $850/ea. Not sure I'll ever be able to justify this U15s. Plus they are heavy as hell.

They are heavy, though mounting on top of the subs (Unity UCS1B) is fairly straightforward and I've gotten used to the laying the tripod down sliding the speaker on it's back onto the tripod and tipping the whole unit up. If I did more larger gigs or if my back wasn't 53, I'd keep them.

I have used them several times doing sound for a Billboard Jazz artist.

Steve, Ittigger and Wes...we are all fans of Yorkville, I see. Oh, and DJ Johnthe1, too.

Initially, I wanted the powered U15's but couldn't see physically lifting them on to speaker stands. I see, Steve, you've found a way that works for you.

Ittiger...I have only one of the LS801PB and find it more than adequate for any of the gigs I have done thus far. I think 450 to 500 people has been the largest thus far. I can't imagine what two of thos 1500 Watt 18's would sound like. Just standing behind the sucker makes me quezzy when it's thumping big time.
I mean to tell you that having the Yorkville LS801P and my Yorkville LS750P's together sounds extremely sweet during cocktail hour.

I love mine.

I would love a reason to hang onto mine, but my large venue has a PA in place, so it's the under 200 people events I bring gear to, and the outdoor events I am asked to do are primarily charity ones, so not having the gear would make it easier for me to say no (and rent for the few times I may need it). The Yamaha DXS12 subs have proven perfect for that size with my JBL PRX612s on top and I plan to pick up another small set of tops for my bar gigs.

I wish they fleshed out the Unity line, as they are some of the most uncolored speakers I have ever used. The subs are extremely musical, though they give up the last octave being horn-loaded 15s. I just can't lift them easily anymore into the Pilot, so I will move them on to a younger person along with the tops.

Steve, I can sympathize with you on the lifting of speakers. I have a matched 12" top and 15" sub RCF Active set of speakers. The sub alone is 92lbs. and I stopped lifting it into the Highlander about 5 years ago. Now I roll them and the Yorkville subs in and out of a 5x8 ramp trailer. Made all the difference in the world. I'd come home after a long day (8-hrs.) of DJ and have muscle spasms at night because of the lifting--don't have those any more with the trailer.

Wes...you've an excellent resource of subs at your disposal...probably more than you'll ever need too. LOL

My upgrade/replacement path has (2) LS801P's for the near future. Not sure when or if I'll need to up the tops - but until then, they will play with the EV 112's and the QSC K12's. The Live X 18's will fall to backup or system 2 .. and if not needed, I'll sell 'em off.

Darn, Steve...you've got me checking out the U15P again. I really do like the sound of a 3-way!

I'd hate to sell off my RCF set (top + 15" sub) to help finance the purchase, though. And, I hesitate to pull the trigger because of their weight (92 lbs. ?). I can still lift the NX750P's on to the Speaker stand (crank up) but wouldn't be able to with the U15's. Did you find that when you laid it down and slid it onto the speaker stand that it slid some before you were able to upright it? At the end of the night, I don't know if I'd have the strength to get them back down to the floor without pulling a back muscle. :( I'm a single op and don't have roadie help!

Might look at the Elite 500's, too although they are still heavy but two-way.

Wishing and dreaming...I guess.

No, they stayed in place .. a lot comes from positioning the trip in the correct place so you're pivoting on 2 legs. I put a piece of carpet under the back of the speaker to keep it from scratching.

Another option is to go with the passive U15s .. they are 12 pounds lighter.

I finally got to work with a pair of U15P speakers and was expecting to be BLOWN away, unfortunately, I was not. They sounded no where near as good as my little 35 pound FBT MaxX 4a speakers. The mid / highs were far more harsh, not smooth and pleasing to the ear like my FBT's. As for the bass, it was pretty good but definitely no better than my FBT's. I was very disappointed for a box weighing in at 92 lbs. The newer version of my 4a's, the EVOMaxX 4a weighs in at just 28.8 lbs. http://www.rmcaudiodirect.com/FBT-EVOMaxx4a-Powered-Speaker-p/evomaxx4a.htm

At almost 40 pounds, the newer FBT Hi MaxX 40a will eat pretty much anything out there in its class with a superior build, more articulate sound, better bass, more real-life output and in a lighter package. http://www.rmcaudiodirect.com/FBT-Hi-MaxX-40a-powered-speaker-p/himaxx-40a.htm

Another thing, FBT's sound just as good after pounding for a couple hours as they do when you first turn them on. They never overheat and are passively cooled with no fans to clog up or burn out.

My two cents... just in case anyone is looking for a QUALITY lightweight speaker.

Can't use Passive...all equipment is Active...no external amps. I would most likely put canvas/velour speaker covers on them and then attempt to bring them down gently. But I see you have a working procedure. Another option would be put a couple of those multi-colored puzzle squares (2x2 ft.) and use those to absorb any inadvertent short distance drops. I use four at all events behind the DJ station (one under table that has the Monster 1000 power strip) that everything is plugged into. The remaining three are placed behind the DJ station where I stand with the center piece attached to the one under the table and pieces 3 and 4 attached to piece 2. Believe me, it does help your back when standing for 4 hours straight. I turn them grey-side up so they are not as noticeable. They still slide some when on carpet, but then beneath the carpet is slab cement so there is no real padding of any kind.

What speaker stands are you using? Crank up or pneumatic?

I've heard great things about the FBT line. Might look into those too. Well, if the 3-way U15P's don't sound all that good, then I might take a look at the EX500P. I think that's the model? I'll have to check and report back.

Never heard the FBTs, but I have also never heard another pair of PA speakers that sound better than the U15s. I don't have the powered version, so maybe that is a difference.

I ran them myself for an entire 7 hour wedding reception. I checked the back of each and had the delay off and the gain set to 2 o'clock. I listened to each closely to make sure they were in good working order. They just aren't very smooth. If you listen to the break in Good Feeling by Flo Rida on both sets of speakers or some well recorded smooth Jazz or even Ciara's 12 Step, you'll know what I mean. Believe me guys, I was stoked to be able to use these things after reading up on them and was expecting to be impressed, I just wasn't.
