I'm stuck for new dance music - what are you playing - current top 5 ?

I just only remember those 2 right now that I play normally. My big point is he never told us the types of events he does on a regular bases. We all can give suggestions for what works for us. That's our suggestions for the kind of events we do mostly. What works for one DJ may not work for aother. Also it depends on the type of DJ you are and knowing your place. Not becoming a gig whore. Just accepting a gig because there's money to be made, even though they are not the right DJ for the gig.

Still waiting for YOUR top 5 songs that work for you....

Well being the fact I've played one event in over a year with a very 90's leaning audience my opinion on new music would be really not that relevant here

Thank you for that post. Now let me ask this. Out of the 5 songs he mentioned, how many of them do any of you and would you play any of them at an event you were doing? My reason for asking is not to start trouble. I'm asking because those songs maybe regional songs that are popular where he lives and some here would never play any of those songs because they wouldn't work for the kind of events they do.

Now Taso I don't mean this in disrespectful way. Me and you are 2 totally different DJs. You're a DJ who does plenty of events where you have to quickly mix one song after another. No playing a whole song a lot of times. My brain doesn't work that fast. I couldn't find a song that fast and mix it in within 2 minuets. Also most songs new songs that you play last less then 4 or five minutes and it's done. 5 minutes is stretching it.

Mix. You play house music... as do I... all 7 minutes of a song... in the right place and setting. Reality is, 98% of private events are NOT looking for that. When I did more nightlife events, then yes that’s what I would do. I would mix entire minute long intros and Outros, play acapellas over bass lines etc. The mainstream crowd isn’t that though, but if you’re not attracting the mainstream you’re not working. As far as the original post goes... I don’t play much of what was listed here, but again that wasn’t the question.

Again like I said it's about what works for you. It's not about what some other DJ does. It's what you're known for and what works for you. Anyone of us can give suggestions for music to play at an event. What we suggest may or may not work for that DJ and that event. It's knowing your limitations if you have some.

Horses for Courses. While many here cater to Middle/Upper Class Patrons, by no stretch of the imagination is jumping up and down/one hand in the air/a drink or phone in the other, actually dancing...and I don't blame the DJ. Dancing for most people seems to be a lost art - and so follows the music.

Pretty much what Taso said...I do private events the majority being weddings I have played 3/5 of what Andy mentioned 2 of them almost every event for the last 5 years they aren't exactly new. I haven't played since the Jawsh 365 song came out in the right setting I would play it. The other Jason Derulo song somehow I missed I hadn't heard it until this thread. There is nothing I have seen in this thread that is truly regional

You keep saying the same thing and I keep telling you what was the issue. 2018 I had a problem with my hip that kept me from working. Sometimes I might have been able to drive so my partner could do a gig. In January 2019 I had the operation that I had to take time out to heal. After that things picked up. things were going well at the beginning of 2020 and then the Pandemic hit which cost me several gig I had lined up to do. 2 were on both Friday and Saturday in April but both got cancelled due to things that we had no control over. Once being put on the shelf that slowed things down big time.. Had nothing to do with the styles of music I play.

Mixy What monthly expense did you have to eat during your down time?
Does a free event cancelled count as lose gig??
No , nothing to do with the thread!! All about you my friend.
oh, your hip is that when you took your sisters meds??

Not a free gig at all. The one in April on Friday was referred to me by my friend who was asked to do the event, yet he had another event he was supposed to do that got cancelled.

No commentary, no explanation, no thoughts about the event, or about what OTHER people do.

JUST. LIST. FIVE. SONGS.
