I'm stuck for new dance music - what are you playing - current top 5 ?

What I remember what I saw was he mentioned songs from 2 years ago and wanted new dance songs that fill a dance floor. With music today things can change so quickly. A song can be hot one month and next month be dead. Also what makes a big difference is the age group of the crowd attending the event. Taso says a lot of the events he does requires he quickly go from one song to the next. That crowd is normally 20 somethings. They don't listen to an entire song and the average new song is less then 5 minutes long. Not many extended versions. That type of crowd for the most part have a short attention span. They get bored easily.

I remember one DJ saying years ago that a mobile DJ should be able to do any type of event. I totally disagree. There are those who are great at doing weddings and another stink at doing weddings. This is not an attack on Steve. Steve said he doesn't do weddings. That doesn't mean he has never done one. Just not what he prefers to do.

Also remember it's a regional thing as well. What works in one area may not work in another. Again reread what Steve said. It depends all on the type of event it is the DJ is doing.

The immediately fleeting popularity and awareness of many things is one of numerous and ominous indicators of the transient standards/standardlessness in our "culture" at large.

The fact that WAP was held in anything but extreme low regard and simultaneously characterized as art is another prime example.

...the plummets, down some slippery slopes, are irreversible and potentially terminal...

Mix why can’t you keep it simple... he was just asking for 5 songs that work for you. Do you have any or not?

Mix, just list the 5 that work for you and let him/we determine what of those would work for us. Easy, KISS.
I can think of 2 off the top of my head right now. Let It Fall and Kose Kuse. Now how many of you have heard those 2 songs or play them at an event ?

Mix, can't say that I have ever heard those two songs. Who are the artists? What BPM? After I here them I can better determine IF i would find a crowd to which I might play. It never hurts to expand one's listening library, however.

You likely never would unless you listen to South African produced House music.

Both suggestions are very niche' selections.

For example, Kose Kuse is a House/Deep House foreign language song by DJ Merlon. DJ Merlon's real name is Sibusiso Mhlongo and he is from South Africa.

Heard of them yes. Play them probably as often as you play Sand in My Boots or Tennessee Whiskey
So you wouldn't play those so't do events that songs at an event because you don't do events where you could play those songs right?

I played Kose Kuse once as a Brides request a few years ago I don't think I ever played Let It Fall. To answer your question no they wouldn't work at the events I play generally speaking but that's not what the OP asked
