I'm looking at getting 2 moving heads and was looking to spend $500 each. What would any of you suggest I buy?
My aim is about getting more work. I'm not worried about getting paid more right now for the lights. I have a friend that I've been talking to about building a website for me. Even in this tough times right now I'm just looking at us getting more work. You asked this a month ago. Same answer. Don’t waste your money. Unless you’re gonna learn to program them, buy totems, invest in cases, etc… it’d a waste of money that will offer you no value, perceived or actual, allow you to charge more, or benefit you in any way. In the end, you’ll be left with a bank account $500 less.

Repeat!!Let me say I know that U king is not Chauvet or ADJ moving heads. I watched some videos on the ones I'm looking at getting and they said so far so good. Not looking at them lasting for the next 5 years, just looking at them lasting for at least 20-30 events. They have a set of 2 on Ebay for $171.99 and free shipping. My thing is I have 2 matching lights I want to use on the light stand and have the 2 moving heads at both ends of the light stand. If I can pull it off I want to get the 2 next month before I do the event on January 15th. The new grills for the speakers came last week. Today my partner will be putting them on. I had one issue when they came and I saw the box on the porch. Someone opened the box. I guess it was someone who lived in the house. I know for the event next month they will be surprised and love us offering lights at the event. Now Bob before you beat me up I will only offer them if someone wants them.
You won’t get work bc of your moving heads. Your clients don’t even know what purpose moving heads REALLY serve. To them it’s just more spinning lights. We may possibly have an event to do in Long Island. Just waiting to find out what's going on.
That was my first thought ! Get the gigs than buy the gear you'll need to get it gone. You won’t get work bc of your moving heads. Your clients don’t even know what purpose moving heads REALLY serve. To them it’s just more spinning lights. Do a website, it’s a better use of $500
Apparently he can’t do that because it’s his partner that knows all the music 90% of people care about. Mix is very limited in the music he knows and is willing to playMix,
You need a much better image to get more/better gigs, gear won’t fix that. Professionalism is what you need, your partner hold you back, you need an assistant not a partner, concentrate on making your setup look neat clean and professional. Cheap free gigs will only get get you more cheap free gigs
I know this, I keep hoping someday he will get it. In reality I feel he is allowing himself to be used for his gear and transportation. It’s actually kinda sad to see this happen to him, too bad his ego gets in the way of realityApparently he can’t do that because it’s his partner that knows all the music 90% of people care about. He's not even doing the totems... he's probably gonna put em on a tbar or on top of a speaker meaning they'll look no different than any other spinning light. Moving heads need not just presentation physically, but also great programming. He's not doing either. And he's going with cheap heads that will have small beams at the sub $500 price range. A waste.Mix, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MOENY ON MOVING HEAD LIGHTS.
I work $900 to $2,000 range of events ( $2,500+ with a big up lighting add on), and none of my events even have moving heads incorporated. None of your clients will even want them. Especially in the below $1,000 level of events.
Focus on up lights, and try to sell up lights to your clients. That will actually have a chance of earning you more money, and the pictures you get will help make your events look cooler to show other clients.
The one time I sold a moving head and totem package the wedding got cancelled and I ended up refunding the deposit. I gave up trying to sell it after 4 years. Don't waste your money.
