If you were to buy new speakers today what would it be?

If passive what amp would you buy to power them?

If money wasn't an object would that change?

I really like my Bass Boss rig, if money was no object I would hire people to set up and tear down gear

Funny how as you get older that seems more a priority than new gear :) I'm in the same boat

I turned 40 last year and I ready for lighter speakers and equipment now :D:D

If I were to buy another pair of speakers, and money wasn't an issue I would likely go with the newest Yamaha DXR MK2 Speakers. I love Yamaha.

But I am completely happy with my Altos! :)

I did just buy new stuff. Being light, compact but still have great sound quality was essential.

Stuck with the bose l1 pro 32’s and 16’s. Came very close to buying the ev50’s. They would have been a great choice as well. I’ve just been used to the L1’s for so long and liked being able to use my t4’s for additional inputs.

I like the look of the stick speakers. I just went to an outdoor gig the other day where a 3-piece band was using two of the Bose L1 Pro16s. It looked and sounded great. Of course, it didn't seem to be as portable as the older ones or even my current system. There are a lot of brands using this form factor now and each offer different features. I haven't heard them all. The new EV Evolve M series seems pretty good too but not as aesthetic. I would think a couple of the JBL EON compact pros would be handy to have around too.

If money were no object would be to design my own special purpose speakers to use for vocal reinforcement throughout a venue. I have several design ideas in my head.

Probably won’t ever buy any more speakers, and don’t have a clue what I’d buy if I did.😊 I really LOVE my RCF EVOX-8’s. I haven’t seen anything I like better. You never know what the future holds. I’m moving to a town with fewer than 3000 people. There probably won’t be many opportunities to DJ, but I can’t imagine there being very many DJ’s there either.

I agree that the stick speakers look real good. However, nothing is as light as my modified Peavey PR NEO 12 speakers. The woofer already had a neo magnet, and since also converting the horn drivers to a neo magnet (actually did it for sound quality), they actually weigh 20 pounds - and I can use them with or without a sub.

However, if buying speakers, I'd buy a pair of JBL Partybox 300. I'm currently in NY visiting the grandchildren, and my son has just one of these things - it is outrageous. Plenty of volume, good low end, NO wires, battery lasts a long time, immediately pairs using Bluetooth - it really is an instant party. I have it playing right now as I type on my laptop using using Mixvibes Cross DJ. I'd have no problem gigging with a pair of these things to 100 people with two exceptions - no tripod mount on the base (easily fixed), and true manual DJ mixing is almost impossible because of the latency. However, I usually don't mix Salsa music, so it would be no problem for me.

Based on what is on the market, I would buy my Evox-12s again.

For larger gigs I'd love to have a set of the RCF NLX-24s over the 8003 sub, or a pair of Bassboss SSP18s. But, I haven't done a gig of more than 150 people in a long time. I think it makes more sense to stick with what I have and supplement or rent when needed.

Passive - big fan of Crown, so it would definitely be a Crown amp .. not sure what speakers. Active - I'm really happy with the ETX line - but could always use more subs. :D

I'd be interested in hearing the Bass Boss subs.

I don't regret my move to active speakers and have no interest in going back.

Yamaha DXR12s are great, no regrets. THe ETX 18 subs may have not been the best choice, but I'd have to compare the options to really decide. No musical sounding enough IMO.

MAYbe the Bose L1 if money were no object.

I have the new Pro 32 and have been super impressed by the output and overall clarity. It's the first powered speaker I have owned where I could go super hard for a whole gig and not see the limit/clip light. It has so much headroom.

What is your reason for not being completely satisfied with the ETX 18 sub?
