A DJ friend of mine told me this is the last year for the Lincoln Park Festival which is next weekend. 14th and final one. That's sad to me because I love being in that park the last Saturday in July listening to the DJs play great house music and I'm not talking about the same old stuff I've played at least 500 times. I'm talking about reminding me of the days of Club Zanzibar where the DJs come introduce new music to the crowd and they would party their butts off.

This year the legendary Timmy Regisford will be the feature and last DJ to play on the stage. I've been there and people ask me if I'm going to be playing. I thank them for the compliment but tell them I'm not that famous.

So I'm going to miss not being in that park the last Saturday in July. Listening to the DJs play there is one thing that keeps me still wanting to DJ. I don't even want to work a gig that Saturday. That does my spirit a world of good.

The thing I won't miss is the weed smoking. That park be lit up with people smoking weed.

Yea it’s about time that a festival with niche music from from 40 years ago comes to an end
WRONG THERE YOU GO ASSUMING THINGS AGAIN. This particular day of the festival with the house music is mostly deep underground house music that a lot of DJs don't play. The music they play is for open minded people who don't want to hear the same songs they have heard over and over again.

What about that country music festival you did for years. I could say glad to hear they no longer are doing that event with boring country music. A lot of people came there because that's what they liked. Same here. The beauty in that day is 8k people attended last year with not one fight breaking out. That's a big plus.

I can't speak for Tunes but I suspect the country music festival was bands and likely current and also draw many more than 8000. The closest one to me is Cavendish and for the headliners it's 35-40,000 and that's not a big country festival. Classic Country festivals are much more rare and draw fewer people much like your house festival. The market for 40-70 year old music at these events is dying off quick as are the entertainers

Either you are uninformed about the festival or they are really lucky to have NO trouble over a 3 day festival. By the way they drew over 50,000 over 3 days according to this website

I find it funny that almost every post you have about great House music .. is music that alot of DJ's don't play - and for open minded people. I'm pretty certain if they all play stuff no one heard, they're each probably playing the same songs. Additionally, I don't know of many people that go to fairs, festivals, concerts or other .. to hear music (or artists) that they don't know.

You obviously don't know much about Genre's other than House - so as already stated - Country fairs, festivals and concerts are doing really well - with sold out shows in many areas.

hey mix... theres plenty of places that play good deep house and tech house... problem is those people aren't going to a random park in the middle of newark in the middle of the day to hear it. They're going to NYC or an actual club with $15 drinks and vip bottle service. Have you heard of Brooklyn Mirage... it's currently the hottest spot in the NJ/NY area for house music... and they don't play anything commercial. The local spots have all but died. The dj's I know that specialized in this music can't even get residencies anywhere and have slowly faded since establishments want to focus on the mainstream crowds.

You don't know what you're talking about .. the ladies at the speaker jam LOVED him and he's going to be their DJ when they have a party .. they said so .. ;)

Sorry all of you are wrong. The people who come there no what to expect and the DJs deliver. The people who come there know the music they are playing and most of it is not from back in the day. It bores me when I do an event that most of the music the crowd wants to hear is the stuff I've played at least 200 times. Just because it bores me doesn't mean I don't play it. I play it, get paid and I'm out.. It's not about what I like or want to play. It's about giving the people what they want.

Every so often I get to do an event where it's fun for me. I clearly understand most people only are stuck on what they already know and have heard repeatedly.

Yes... we get that the people know the music that go there... I'm just saying MORE people are choosing to go to other spots... more trendier and more upscale in many cases. There are also other festivals in the general area that people may prefer to go to. You are older and therefore may not care about these other spots, especially since you only speak of local happenings... however, the 35 and unders, aka the future, are perhaps not as interested in this festival compared to other options, and therefore the numbers can be dwindling and/or the operating costs are exceeding the profits. This perhaps can be a reason why the festival is closing

I was invited to go to the "Naptown Getdown" today. A bunch of various Rock Bands at Union Jack's down in Annapolis. I could have gone in for free, and manned The DelMarva Music Radio booth. We had a few T Shirts to sell, and hang the banner up etc. BUT, I'm simply not in the mood to head down. Mainly because It is 100 degrees outside, and after a short trip to Costco earlier today, all I wanna do is lounge around in the AC. I'm not even in the mood to consume alcohol!

We are planning on going to the pool for maybe an hour so so once the sun is starting to go down maybe between like 6:45 and 8 p.m. It will still be hot out though. Also, when I work 5 days straight, all I really want to do is relax, and not have to go any where. Driving 40 miles each way, listen to Loud Rock music for hours, and sit in the hot heat is not my definition of relaxing. Now if it were 75 degrees out, and I hadn't worked all week already, I would probably be in the mood to head down and watch a bunch of local rock bands for the rest of the day.

I guess my point is that while a lot of people may like this music, they may not go to a festival because they may be tired, not in the mood, it may be too hot out.

You do know that most of us worked 40+ hours a week AND did the DJ thang ... and spent time with family .. When you're dead you'll have plenty of time for sleep ...

How is it possible that ALL of us are wrong?

If this is true .. then this next post of yours can't be true.

Which is it?

The mechanic shop I go to has a sign that says coffee you can sleep when you're dead.

I wouldn't make a separate thread. I just got a call today to do an event on September 14th. There's good and bad news doing this event. The good news is they want me back. Hopefully the elevator will be working so we can use it instead of having to use the stairs. That's a big deal if it's in the same place as last time.

My thing is I got to remember they are stuck into back in the day music. Follow Me, When Can Our Love Begin. Stuff like that. I will be bored but it's about making the people who come there happy. Just got to get them a contract ASAP..

My friend that's doing an event right now put me back on track. Be thankful they want me back. He said that's what you want and he's right!

Spot on Taso... I went to Brooklyn Mirage back in may to see Black Coffee and 2 other DJs and the event was epic.Great spot. Huge outdoor/indoor facility with a kick ass KV2 sound system.

Someone called you about an event and you have no idea where it's at? You didn't ask any questions?

As someone who's stuck on older House music and has no appreciation for current music, how can you complain about 'back in the day' music? Is there anything you don't complain about?

Not stuck on older house music. The issue is that crowd the time I did for them, they were stuck on older house music. What I call older house music is Follow Me, He Loves Me, God Helps Those and stuff like that. My preference is newer stuff. Again it's not about me. It's about what the crowd wants.

I didn't discuss the location yet because there's no contract given to them to get the details. I'm sure it will be in the location as before.

What's newer stuff?? 1985 vs 1980?
