Just stumbling around looking at stuff on the internet as usual I happened come across the Peavey PV 1600. I read the description and realized that it was exactly what I have been looking for. Then I thought, "why isn't this bi-amped setup more common"? Some very smart engineer(s) came up with a very clever design. It seems reasonably priced too. Seems like just the right amount of power for my two small mains and my two small subs and all in one little package.

I just looked again at the description and I may have been too quick to celebrate. It looks like this amp is designed for just the mains and that the crossover frequency may not be the right frequency for my subs. Aw, shucks, I love the concept .
I guess it's back to the drawing board . . .

I have (2) EV SX100 mains and (2) SB122 Subs. The thing I liked about the Peavey PV1600 is that built into the amp was a crossover of sorts and a low freq cutoff. I thought I could use it to power my mains and my subs, but then I realized that the frequencies weren't set for subs they were set to bi-amp the mains only which means that the cutoff for the low frequency driver would be at like 3000hz or 5000hz or something like that.

I would like to run my subs crossed over at 100hz or 125hz and nothing below 50hz and send nothing below 125hz to the mains. At first blush it looked like I could run the mains and the subs off one one PV1600 amp and do all of that.

I guess I need to accept that I will need a mixer, a crossover and an amp just like everyone else does it.

I have a Yamaha EMX512 powered mixer, but eventually I'd like to change to what I said above, a mixer, a separate amp and a crossover.

I'm not looking to buy anything today, I was just looking for the right solution for when I do decide to change over. I'm constantly looking at gear and comparing specifications. My goal is to use as few components as possible and make my setup as light as possible while still sounding good, that's why I have the components that I have now.
