Howdy,

I'm the National Program Director for a non-profit called "Kid Star Radio". The NP installs "radio" stations in schools. I've selected the library for the most part, but I need your suggestions in two areas:

Urban/Hip Hop
CHR

These titles need to be "squeaky clean" and would be played in school by kids. See my problem? I know we can play the Jonas Brothers and Miley, but the Urban/HH is a little trickier.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

:sqbiggrin:Akon-Beauftiful
Lady Gaga-Just Dance
Keri Hilson-Turning me on
T.I.-Whatever u like
Kanye West-Heartless
Akon-Right now na na
Pitbull-krazy
I use these a lot at a Junior High School I usually play at and they love it.

Regardless of what the song's about, a song titled "Turning Me On" should probably not be played in a school by an outfit called "Kid Star Radio".

With that said, you'll probably want to play it safe and stick with songs that have found their way into the mainstream and would be considered "played out" by most urban youth. You may never win over the hip-hop fans, but at least you'll stay on the good side of the school systems that allow your company into their space.

I'm guessing that the station would be operating during school hours during passing periods or at lunch, not in the evening hours.

Brandy - Right Here (Departed)
Jordin Sparks - One Step At A Time
Keyshia Cole - Heaven Sent
Beyonce - Single Ladies
T.I. feat. Rihanna - Live Your Life
Chris Brown - Forever
Danity Kane - Damaged
Ne-Yo - Mad

Check out some of the Radio Disney CDs- they have a lot of squeaky clean stuff by groups other than just the Jonas Bros and Miley Cyrus, incl. remakes of Mambo #5, Who Let The Dogs Out, etc

Thanks Bob those were the ones I would suggest for sure. They get pretty current with the latest issues as well.

Disney...My first thought as well, Bob.

Dave, look man, even if the lyrics are squeaky clean, things are going to be touchy. "My Humps" uses the word "ass" one time, but the sentiments expressed in the song could get an army of dads after your bad self.

But then again, you don't want all-Disney all the time!

Dave,

Isn't KidStar getting the music from us? I've seen in our system that Paul has started picking the music. Have you checked out our library lists for ideas? Feel free to e-mail me if you haven't located them and I can direct you to them.

I've always used "The Hampster Dance" and any song by Crazy Frog for elementary school dances - totally inoffensive!

As a mom, if I ever hear Crazy Frog again it will be too soon. LOL But, you are right, inoffensive and my goodness, the kids love it!

The vast majority of Will Smith is very good for "clean" enviroments A lot of other hip hop and rap needs to be looked at closely and hand picked.

Maybe you missed the part where Dave said "squeaky clean"?

Lady Gaga-Just Dance (about being drunk and alone in a night club)
Keri Hilson-Turning me on (lust/sexuality)
T.I.-Whatever u like (booty call song)
Kanye West-Heartless (Not bad, just very negative)
Akon-Right now na na (sex)

*Pitbull-krazy (political, but fun. Good pick.)
