I had a weird dream last night. I dreamt I was just finishing a gig and was starting to tear down. I look up and see that one of my speakers is above my reach (~8 feet high), sitting on a huge subwoofer. This subwoofer (about 3-4 wide and almost equally tall) was mounted on a stand and the speaker was teetering on the edge of the sub and about to fall off. Now I had to figure out how to lower the subwoofer gently enough so I could reach the speaker and get it down safely. So here are my issues:

1) Why did I put a subwoofer on a stand?
2) How did I get this huge subwoofer onto the stand?
3) Who made such a strong stand?
4) Why didn't I secure the speaker to the subwoofer so it couldn't fall?
5) What kind of gig was this?
6) Why didn't I have helpers?
7) Was this gig worth the effort?

OK, maybe an analyst won't get me the answers I need. Have you ever had any strange dreams involving gear?

I have odd DJ event dreams on a somewhat regular basis. And this is after being out of the biz since late 2013!

It usually involves not being able to find the music I need as I rifle through a weird case of CD's or empty sleeves while the client gets madder and madder.

But that never happened during ANY event! Yeah I know, OCD is part of it...:sqO.o:

I used to have dreams where I’d go through the whole event, work through issues, trouble shoot. Well that hasn’t happened in over 20 years. Now, I dream I’m DJing at a Arena playing, vinyl on turntables and for some reason I can’t find any good stuff to play. If I had to pick a time frame I’d say the dream was it the 80s. And here where it really gets crazy my son is there helping me. Ok, I stopped using vinyl in 1993, my son was born is 2003, I haven’t even touch a record in years.

Bottom line compared to the dreams where I’m being chased all night long, I will take the crazy DJing dreams any day. Waking up feeling like you ran a Marathon isn’t fun.

If you want it all to go away, gain weight, get sleep apnea and you’ll stop dreaming. It will cause a load of other health problem but no more crazy dreams.

Your dream is a sign that something of a threatening nature in your life is just out of your reach or beyond your control right now. You may also feel it's time sensitive which is why it looms with "something in the balance." (The threat need only be perceived - meaning it's mild or not necessarily real yet weighs on your mind subconsciously.)

Dunlopj:
Dreams about falling behind while a customer gets increasingly aggravated are about trepidation. There's probably something subliminally stressful on your plate right now and your dream is attaching to familiar feelings of anxiety - like being pressured by a client while in a difficult event situation. This trigger needs no real life occurrence - just that familiar feeling of anxiety previously associated with events. When we are experiencing things (even unrelated) that cause us a similar anxiety the dream emerges (like a road sign) trying to call our attention to the stress.

My dream was always songs running out before I had the next one picked out. Then, each time I start a song it's as if they're all just 15 seconds long and I can't keep up. Eventually, I figured out that this dream only occurs when my schedule is completely packed - like right down to the exact minute! I would have a dozen events with multiple events and locations on the same day all week long - and the stress of something possibly screwing up my carefully timed planning would manifest as this dream of not being able to keep up with the rotation.

1) I didn't know you were also a dream analyst.

2) Maybe you used to DJ with an old buddy of mine. I would occasionally help him set up his gigs as he was 20 years my senior. I think he was guilty of dead air at least once at every gig I witnessed. He got flustered if too many people were talking to him and he would then lose track of the song playing. It didn't help that his CD organization left something to be desired as well.

1.) A little self awareness makes a "dream analyst" unnecessary.

2.) The dream I reference has no sound of any kind. It's just a repetitive cycle of time running out. Dead air does not cause me any stress. A lack of available time is a common source of stress for everyone.

Why this dream? It probably originates from younger years in the club scene and vinyl records when timing was much more crucial to hitting the mix, and I was still very young. Now, when my schedule is causing me stress - this is what my psyche relates it to.

Dreams are a manifestation of how we are feeling - usually when we're not fully conscious of the feelings. The dream typically reverts to back to our earliest memory or experiences of those feelings.

Whoa....that's a lot of assumptions. Maybe it could be my late night snack choice of pepper jack cheese....:sqeh:

I only gave you one such emotion associated with the dream - it's up to you to determine what part has more meaning: the angry client or the unproductive case of CDs.

Ever notice that the dreams we remember or wake up with are the ones that remain unresolved?

We mostly only remember the last thing we were dreaming about. And, since we woke up during the dream, it is no surprise the subject is unresolved.

Have you ever noticed that the dreams in which you were dying are the best you've ever had? It's a Mad World.

I have the typical "can't find the next song and the current song ends in 30 srconds" dream. From what I've heard, it's a common theme amongst DJs

May have a relationship with getting old.
I usually solve any issues in my dreams before I wake. Have told myself this is not real, just a dream.😁

1) The subs were flown - the 'stand' was for an aerialist
2) Again, no stand - they were flown
3) Aerialists materials are pretty strong
4) You will be contacted shortly about this
5) Fantastic festival with aerialists
6) You did, they were eating at that specific time (they're union)
7) We all hope so!

The compulsion to rationalize every nuance of the human experience is - BORING.

Your notion that the dreams are random flies in the face of dreams which are recurring over significant spans of time. If you're perfectly healthy and unstressed then your dreams might be simple musings about want or desire past and present.

But, our brain processes only a tiny fraction of the sensory information we receive while awake. When we sleep our brain occupies itself with that lower priority information, and if relevant to our emotional state or survival instincts - will manifest in a familiar and recurring dream whose emotional state most closely resembles the emotions or stress the brain seeks to resolve.

The dream is relevant only on an emotional level - because the script is compiled from past memory or experiences. It's like having to send a new message to someone using ONLY the limited collection of images you've shared with them in the past. If your under a particular form of stress, the brain will likely respond with a dream related to your earliest conscious experience of a similar stress. These are the dreams we tend to remember most vividly or wake up to because, there's a message wrapped inside them

This may not be the case if you are not otherwise healthy, or on medication or substances that inhibit or change your natural sleep patterns. Sleep aids, cold medicines, etc - anything that changes the way we sleep could change the way we dream.

I wonder if the message, "Be Kinder to people and life will be less stressful" is ever wrapped inside.

You're not dreaming Scott, just compulsively picking an emotion scab.
You are our little ray of sunshine. Always trying to brighten up someone 's day. Truly inspiring😁
