Hello all. I've been looking for a van as some of you know. I was trying to go through the credit union to get one but wasn't having any luck. The problem was I couldn't find one that fit their requirements. It couldn't be no more than 17k. It couldn't be no older than a 08 and it had to have less than 100k miles. I couldn't find anything decent that fit those requirements. if it was decent it had over 100k miles.

So yesterday I went to MapleCrest Ford in Vauxhall NJ to see what they had and what would happen since a friend of mine got a used car from them.

I came across a Ford 2012 Econoline 250 that had less than 40k miles. Very clean and drove well. No dents or rust spots. Got to go back up their today to get the rest of the stuff out of the old van and give them the title. Got to go back up there to give them the 1k down payment. I filled out the paper work and was able to drive away. Got this van just in time. Got a school dance to do tomorrow and a event to do next Saturday. I also have a meeting to go to this Sunday.

Just for those will ask me. All together the van cost $21,600.00. My monthly payment is was originally to be $468.00. The payment is $419.94. The insurance is with Geico full coverage for $330.75. Great deal for me. I've never had a vehicle this nice before. I've had a couple of nice ones but nothing like this. I told people right now I'm really excited until it's time to make the payment. I got 45 days to go before the payment is due. I'll take some pictures later on and post them. Got to get ready to go go to the dealer.

Last thing. I might be in the bar next Friday playing because my friend has a gig to do and won't be there. Have a wonderful day all!

Good Luck with the van Mix ...

Thanks Steve. It was a tough decision. I was scared since every vehicle I've had before was paid in full at the time of purchase. I'll make it through with getting work and God's blessings. Some don't like my decision. There just comes a time when you just got to surrender.

Glad to hear! That is expensive insurance though.

One thing I have towarn you though...FORD "Found on road Dead" ...You might get a few years out of it before the quarterly problems start, then they will turn into monthly problems. My sister and brother both have 2002 Ford Explorers. They both have a issue EVERY month at this point. Of course their vehicles are 13 years old now, and my sister has like 190K on her Explorer. I think my brother has about 170K. My brother replaced the transmission in his Explorer last year. $2500 repair. ...My brother had a 2012 Ford Focus...The rear deck near the rear window was crumbling apart, and disintegrating. It was also having problems. He stopped paying the payments and let them take the car back...LOL. Not a wise decision credit wise, but he was mad about the car being so junky, and was mad he even bought it (plus he had some financial issues and chose to let that bill go). I think they paid off most of what he owed on the loan when they took it back. I give my brother and sister 12 months max before both of their Explorers die. They should be happy those cars are still running!

....or how about "Fix Or Repair Daily" (LOL)? Frankly though, that has not been my experience. I've owned several Ford products over the years, but my Ford truck was by far my favorite. It was such a good truck I kept it for 17 years, which is longer than I kept any other vehicle. It was a daily driver for years, then relegated to backup vehicle or bad weather driver (it had 4WD) until I finally traded it for the minivan I use for my DJ business. I wish I could have kept it, but we just don't have space for four vehicles, and paying insurance on a truck that we rarely use does not make sense. I do miss it though. It was a great truck and I would certainly buy another F-150.
Congrats on your purchase Mixmastermachom. I hope your new van gives you years of enjoyable service as my Ford truck gave me!

I highly doubt you'll have any problems with a 2012 Eco-line. My brother is a Ford mechanic and they rarely ever see one come in, except for routine stuff (oil, tire rotation, etc).

First I live in East Orange NJ and trust me the insurance for full coverage isn't that bad at all. I actually got it that low because once the guy got my address he saw there were 3 different vehicles that were covered by Geico. Remember 2 things here. We're talking full coverage and the 2 vehicles you mentioned are 2002. They don't make vehicles to last 20-30 years any more. They have to keep money circulating or how do the new car dealers stay in business.

You said one of them spent $2,500.00 on a 2002 getting the transmission fixed. For that kind of money they could have looked for another vehicle instead of getting that old one fixed.

Yes, but trying to find a reliable vehicle (especially an SUV) for $2,500 that is state inspected is very, very difficult. Actually, I don't think you can find a Inspected SUV in Maryland for $2,500. Also, he needed a car right away. He had it back in 3 days. It would have taken longer to find a car for $2,500.

I recently purchased a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer for $2,600. It has 155K miles on it. I purchased it from a friend who is a mechanic and service adviser at a shop. He bought it for $700, then put $1500 into it to fix everything it needed. It runs like new...just doesn't look new. He made $400 off of selling the car to me. Then I paid $352 in taxes tags, and title to get the car on the road.

I pay about $650 every 6 months for two cars with Geico for a 2011 Traverse, and the 2002 Lancer. Traverse is full coverage.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS on your new vehicle.

:)

Now for the not so good news .. if this is it, you paid too much. Unless you got some stuff added to the deal, at $21,600, you paid $3,714 more than they're asking for it.

2012 Chevrolet Express Van G1500
For sale in Vauxhall, NJ

Quick Specs:
Mileage:
39244 miles
Color: White
Engine: Vortec 4.3L V6 MPI
Transmission: 4-Speed Automatic with Overdrive
Drivetrain: Rear wheel drive
VIN: 1GCSGAFX3C1103698
Stock #: 15F57B

Maplecrest Price: $17,886

I don't know how many months or the interest .. but if this was $21,600 out the door, then the math doesn't line up. It appears to be 66 months ($419.94 * 66 = $21,116.04). If you paid $21,600 - what is the additional $484 for ($21,600 - $21,116)? Did they give you anything for your van?

Either way, you paid more than their asking price of $17,886 .. and if that was their asking price, you should have been able to negotiate. Rounded up to 18k, your payments would have been 375 / month for 48 months. I also think if you went back to YOUR bank and asked about $17,886 on a 2012, they may have accepted it. If you've already signed the papers, it's too late to fix it.

so you don't know if you bought a ford or a Chevy or if it's a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton chassis, I smell something funny here, post pics please for proof

Just seems weird once it's an E250 next it's a Chevy, maybe he just had a cloudy vision, surely he know how to paste a link to van he is really purchasing,

Annually, or monthly?

I agree that you got screwed for $21K, especially if you gave them your old van as part of the deal (it sounds like you did, because you're bringing them the title). What's the interest rate that you were able to get?

So many questions... if you hadn't driven the van away already, you should have told them the deal's off, then wait a day and then see what kind of lower price they'll give you.

How many of you would have spent the $2,500.00 he did to get that vehicle fixed for the transmission and it's a2002? What will he do if he has another big repair bill for that vehicle? Myself I would have looked for something else. No you won't find a certified vehicle for that price. I just would have looked for something I feel was reliable instead of fixing that one with it costing that much to get it repaired. I did what I did and I'm happy with the purchase. My mother said she doesn't curse but said damn this is nice. My sister told her it was very nice. The price included taxes, licensing fees and the like. It runs great. I was sold when it had less than 40k miles and no dents.

you still haven't told us what you bought is it a ford or chevy 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton, and I put a transmission in a 1994 Chevy truck with 180,000 miles on it ran great for another 70,000 miles.

I said it's a Chevy Express. Not sure about what ton it is. I just know it will work for me. If I use all the speakers and subs for an event then I will need to rent a van big enough. We'll be fine this Saturday. We're bringing 2 tops and 2 subs.

I'm fairly certain that a few of us would have spent it. In fact, I have. I know that once it's fixed, I should not have to fix that part anymore (and on most 'large' repairs, there is a limited warranty). If you have another big repair bill (say another 2500), then you pay for that too. Maintenance is a fact of life. If those were the only 2 major repairs, then you just saved $16,000 bucks over the price of your van. You have no guarantee's that your 'new' van won't have any problems or need any maintenance .. so now you may have a car payment and a repair bill as well.

There is something to be said for owning a car - you don't have monthly payments. I know a person that had a new Dodge Durango, the front suspension went out on it .. and as luck had it, it was not a warranty covered item - new car payment in addition to a big repair bill. If you continually spend large amounts, then you should look for something else.

I did what I did and I'm happy with the purchase. My mother said she doesn't curse but said damn this is nice. My sister told her it was very nice. The price included taxes, licensing fees and the like. It runs great. I was sold when it had less than 40k miles and no dents.

I hope you are happy with the purchase .. if you read my post above, it looks like you paid more than you should have. When your warranty runs out (and you're still paying for it), you will also have some big bills. How are you going to handle needing new tires or brakes with a car payment?

According to the site, you have a Chevy Express Cargo 1500. This is a 1/2 ton.
