I just bought a new pair of Yorkville 801p subs Thursday.

I finally got the ultimate subs I've been wanting for years. Those Yorkville 801p subs are awesome! They are very heavy but they kick major butt. I went to KPODJ and picked up the pair. I got them for a great price. I paid $ 2,100.00 for the pair. We just got them put in the basement and hooked up one to hear how they sound and it was through the roof. Well worth every penny spent!

Hands down really top of the line subs. I now understand why DJS rave about them. Super bass and they have dials in the back to adjust the sound. Also you can connect other speakers to them. You can take passive speakers and hook them up to those subs. Again great choice on my part and I couldn't be happier!

They weight 138 pounds. So to move them out of the basement it will take 2 people. There is no way I could move them by myself. It took 2 of us to get them in the basement.

Now you're going to have to work to find gigs large enough to use them at.

Were they USED LS801P? Either way good price. You'll enjoy them.
Hmmmm...I didn't know you could connect a passive to them and get the power from the Active LS801P? Perhaps Steve can correct me if I am wrong? Yes, dial in your preference. I can hardly stand behind one when it is going 50% power or more! LOL Makes me queezy.

I was told you can hook up a passive speaker to that sub. I have a pair of Yamaha DSR S215's and a QSC 2450 amp. Might possibly be getting a pair of used Earthquakes for $400. 00. Just have to wait and see on that.

I should have never sold the ones I had and the other QSC 2450 I had. Before I get beat up about buying all this stuff it was suggested to me that I should have kept the Earthquakes and I could have rented them out. I don't know how to do that but I know on here I will learn. I was thinking to not only have them sign a contract but also make them pay to rent the gear with a cc. So if there is a problem just charge their cc and recoupe the money for the gear that way.

Correct .. You can't drive a passive sub or top from it .. only pass-thru the input signal (high-passed for top use).

Mix - since the LS801 doesn't have a high-passed output and the DSR115 uses a 120Hz low-cut filter, you will get a better sound by picking up a crossover .. either passive or active, since a 15" top usually sounds better crossed-over at around 90 or so Hz instead of 120 (which is usually for 10" woofers). Since you can't do that with the DSPs in either of your boxes, I'd opt for something like the dbx 223 or a DriveRack PA2 (or PX). Those crossovers will also make it easier to run the tops with 1 or 2 subs (especially the DriveRacks).

Try it without first .. set the frequency rolloff on the sub to 120 and engage the 120Hz high-pass on the DSR115 (switch on back) to see if you like the sound.

As I mentioned above .. you can not drive a passive speaker from the LS801p .. only daisy chain other actives.

Mix .. be careful mixing subs. Same as with tops, they have different frequency responses and need different helping of EQ or delay.

You're getting in to a complete other muddle when you start renting gear. Mix think long and hard before you do it. I've done it before and it would be a select few I would do it with again. As I mentioned elsewhere the 801's rent for about $20 each/day around here if it's the same there even at $400 it would take you 10 rentals to recoup your money that's 10 times you are risking the quakes before you break even

I wouldn't get into the equipment rental business because someone suggested it. Is that something you really want to do, and do you know all the facets of runing that kind of business?

Also, if someone tells me something like "you can hook passives up to that sub", I would do some research to confirm. Google works pretty good for finding specs on equipment.

I also picked up a pair of Earthquakes from Brooklyn. I got them for $400.00. The guy wanted to sell a pair of CV tops for $150.00. They weren't worth it. They were the old ones that have the tin cone inside. One my friends I guess still has a pair. They aren't bad but certainly not worth $150.00. I tried to get him to sell them for $100.00. He won't get rid of them for that price. He will be sitting on them forever till he drops the price.

I am confused as to why you keep buying gear you can't move by yourself, you told us the partnership was dissolved so now you have to rely on someone else to help you move stuff. seems very odd and not well thought out.

I easily got that part covered. I have a guy working with me and there is my girlfriends son. Getting the gear moved is not a big deal. The big deal is getting through the jobs coming up and working on getting paid a good amount.

The 'getting paid a good amount' must now include additional funding for the extra bodies helping you .. either that or it comes out of your pocket.

Well, the only difference between passive and active is the location of the amplifier. There's no reason you couldn't pass the input signal to an amplifier feeding passive cabinets. That would make a lot of sense if you were using a snake with limited sends to the stage.

Mix I not trying to be mean but you just spent $2500 on speakers, did you REALLY need them at this time. If you are busy every weekend then it wont take long to pay for them but you seem to do a lot of low or no paying jobs so its gonna take for ever to pay for them
