I just picked up a karaoke show on Sunday nights at a great location. It is in the tourist area of Orlando (yes there are parts of Orlando that are not tourist areas). It is at a hotel that I do a lot of weddings at, they have a night club in the hotel with a stage. They have a house band thurs- sat and they want Karaoke on Sunday and they may add a couple of other days. I have done some smaller Karaoke show with my current library but I need to expand it pretty quick. I am looking for Super CD+Gs so if any one knows where I could get them at a good price please let me know. I am really excited about this show. The club has an amazing sound system and DJ booth so I only have to bring the karaoke player, music, and mics. They also have built in lighting. It's a really great set up! If anyone has done a show at this type of location please let me know if you have any tips. Thanks. BTW I will be stopping by the club in the next couple of days to figure out my setup. I'll take some pics and post them.

I know people.
The thing that scares me is "tourist" area because, and I know this from personal experience, it is hard to build up a solid base od core singers, people who come back a lot...

I know that I had some nights that were great and non-stop singing, then next week zero, zippo, zilch, nada shoot a cannon off and not hit anyone.

The locals would come sometimes, but not enought to support the show, It all really depends on the tourists and who is in the hotel on that night....

Tell them they HAVE to advertize OUTSIDE the hotel. Putting up in-house flyers and notes in the room or in info hotel channel are great, but they need to do something else....

This fact was lost on my venue...... anyway, I didn't mean to come off as a downer.... hope it works out....

Thanks Chuck,

The area I am talking about is International Drive for those of you who are familiar with Orlando. It is the most popular area of town for both locals and tourists for karaoke. I go to 3 or 4 shows near by on a regular basis myself.
I told the bar manager and the hotels GM the same thing about advertising. They do plan on advertising in all of their rooms as well as their sister hotels (this is a Rosen Property, the have over 5,000 rooms at several hotels within a mile) as well as radio ads. Plus it is a smoke free location and a lot of singers are looking for a place on I-drive like that.

As I spent a couple weeks ago stayed at the Palace Station Casino and there was great room advertising and billboard banners etc in the hotel throughout with the weekly schedule including a daily news update for the rooms. If promoted proper with the radio for the locals etc I can see it being very positive. Good luck Dan. Ebay has some pretty decent CDG sets for sale give that a shot and sing sing sing!!

Here are a few pics of the location. I went by today to check out the sound and familiarize my self with the room. BTW I was behind the camera. The "other guy" is one of my DJs (Frank...not Kevin:sqlaugh:)

Dan, will you have use of that big TV as a monitor? It'll keep their attention and get them following along- and singing

If they use it for something else during the show it may detract from it. PLEASE tell me you'll be using it....

Add on: My bad. IS that a monitor, or artwork?

Those are paintings. You can see the karaoke monitor in the pic of the stage, The lyrics will also be on TVs all around the room.

Ok. We have done the show for 2 weeks now, and it's going pretty well. A lot more DJing then Karaoke, but that is ok with me. Looks like we will be picking up a few more days a week. Here are some singing and dancing pics from last night. Oh, and I included some pics of the lights for those who are into that kind of thing.
