I did the event this past Saturday and got a text message from the chairperson this morning. He said the committee liked the music I played. That made me feel good. I always worry about what people think of the job I did at an event. That's my perfectionism getting in the way. So it looks like when they have another event and need a DJ they will call me. My friend said that will be next year. I told him they will have another event long before next year. I'm glad I talked my partner into bringing the 2 Yamaha tops and Yorkville sub. It pays to have good equipment to work with. No matter how good you are as a DJ, if your equipment sucks it will not make up for how good you are as a DJ.

i knew the room because I had been there twice with my friend doing a dance there. So I knew you had to come in with some serious sound and not something that would sound like a boombox. The funny thing is the chairperson had us put the sub on the stage. No arguing with him. I certainly am not used to putting a sub on a stage. Just had to adjust the volume on the sub so it wasn't overkill. It sounded great! It's always great to get someone to compliment you on the job you did. I didn't think I did that great a job but others including my partner and my friend said other wise. I think adding the lights to the event was a nice touch that they are not used to.

Personally, I would have gone with just 1 pair of the new EVs you bought and left it at that. It would have been enough bass and wouldn't have looked as ragged as the Yamahas do on the bottom. Fix the DSRs and then bring them.

I thought the Yamahas and Yorkies were your speakers. They belong to your partner?
Those speakers are mine. Just deciding what to bring. Neither one of us like using those Yorkville subs because of the weight issue. Yet they are a great pair of subs. It's not too bad when the load in is easy. That's not the case for this venue. You have to get your gear down stairs and up stairs to get the gear in and out of the room. Those subs have wheels on them but it does no good when stairs are involved.

What do you think you could have done better?
Well at first I was playing older classic Soul and the chairperson stopped me from playing that. I did that before the speaker portion was to be done. So if I get a chance to do another event for the committee I know to put it down right away. Don't wait for the dance to start.

Did you not know the speaking was done? If so, this is not your first speaking event, how did you not know? Aren't you doing the recordings?

Wait... They asked you to stop playing it? And your response is to play it earlier instead?

Did you ask the organizer what they wanted you to play?

Normally there's more than 1 speaker. The speaker didn't speak till around 7:15 or so. The event started at 6. So I was playing music to fill the time until the speaker portion started. I didn't want to play a bunch of stuff I was going to play later for the dance.

Didn't you work out a timeline with them beforehand?

No things changed due to the speaker portion started very late. So that threw things off. It caught me and others off guard.
If the timeline said, let's say, 7:00 for the speakers to start ... and it was 7:00 and they hadn't, how would that catch you off guard? Wouldn't you have gone to the folks in charge to see what the changes were?

They liked the music, but asked you to stop playing it?

Not at all. The event started at 6 and there was no speakers for the speaker portion. So I was playing music till the speakers showed up and it was time for them to speak. I was playing music and the chairperson wanted a different kind of music than what I was playing at the time. So I did as I was told and switched up the music.

Once the speaker showed up which there was only one I stopped playing until it was time for the comedy show. I just played intro stuff as the comedians came on and finished playing music for the dance until almost everyone was gone. After that time to get paid and pack up.
