I went to GC yesterday and bought a Shure wired PGA 58 microphone on sale for $58. I needed it because the one I had wasn't working well. So I wanted another wired mic to use if needed. I have a job to do Saturday and will check it out then. I bought the Shure because it's Shure and it has an on and off switch.

Working with the production company, I have a soft spot for Audix microphones.
The OM series is made for vocals.
I use the OM3 as the wired mic mounted on my rack.

I think we've ALL owned a Shure SM 58 at some point in our careers,

+1 .. I also prefer the Sennheiser's.

+2. The Sures are great the Sennheiser's are greater.

I'm not sure if it's because they are good or they are cheap but we use them for remote broadcasts at the radio station

I used the corded mic I bought yesterday and it worked great. No issues at all. Set it and forget it. Only time I turned it up was when a lady reading poetry wanted it louder. Next time I will use the cordless mics. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong so I can use them.

Working great and sounding great are two different issues .I use the SM57 with filter and a DBX comp for speech . Works great outside with a little wind and also cut 120 & below out on EQ.
Never have had any one ask for an increase in volume. Yes I also used a backpack so as to run wireless if needed or go with EV wireless hand held.
over two-thirds of my receptions include ceremony. Then I pull out the lav 's most of the events.

The event I did yesterday was outside in a walkway by the Hoboken museum. So I could only have it so loud. It was tough working under that situation. Yet it was my first time working there and they didn't want the neighbors complaining. So I had to watch the volume. That sucks because it makes it difficult to hear my mixes. Yet I had to do things as they wanted it. I only used one speaker and it sat on the ground. The reason is that room was needed for another vendor to setup.

Don't get me wrong. I had a great time and would love to do it again. That did my spirit good and the crowd was great. I got a few requests at the end. So I didn't have people hasselling me all day.

The reason it did my spirit a world of good is because Mothers Day just passed and my mother is not here anymore. First Mothers Day without her here. I used my phone to get a few songs. The issue with that is the volume had to be turned up so you could hear the song. Thus it had to be turned down when I went back to using my HD. Overall a great day with some nice people in a upscale middle class community. We were just a block away from the harbor. I did all the playing yesterday. The organizer is a house head and that fit me perfectly. No need for any Hip Hop stuff at all.

A good price, but for $40 more, you could have had SM58 capsules instead of PG58 capsules. The SM58 is a better capsule and a singer's standard mic. And can I ask why your "partner" isn't buying any gear for the team to use?

E835 with switch 3/ $249 from alto music. Always great deals when you not in need!
Why would I spend that much when what I bought works good enough for what we do? It worked nicely yesterday. No feedback issues and people could hear clearly what someone said or sung.

The three pack was just an observation not directed at you.
From your posts it sounds as if you need speaker stands. Setting speaker on the ground has never worked but you continue to set on the floor of ground.😮

Reread what I said. We were not allowed to use the speaker stand due to another vendor needing that space. That's why the speaker sat on the ground. The speaker is a Yamaha DSR 115 and has worked flawlessly for over 10 years. Where did I say the speaker didn't work?

Mixy put your speaker on a stand and you will get better coverage with decreased volume. Stands don't take up that much room , almost the same footprint as your 15inch speaker. I used one 10 inch for 167 people attending the wedding ceremony last weekend. Proper speaker placement is a big plus.
You can run your speaker wirelessly and setup any place in the area. Use your Alto wireless unit.

I know what you're saying and you're right. The issue is Ithere wasn't a lot of room in the space to put a speaker stand with the vendors there. Besides I was doing what I was told to do. I know on the ground the sound wasn't great. It was muffled and yet I wasn't in charge of the event. I was just doing what I was told to do. In certain cases you just have to go with the flow and do the best you can. That was the first time they heard me. So what I find once they get to know you and trust you know what you're doing, they will be more open most times.

A speaker stand can be set up so that it's just a few inches wider at most than your speaker... was it so tight that there was someone literally up against your speaker?
