I bought a few items to use at events in the future.

I went to Unique Photo and bought a tripod to hold my camera and a Godox speedlite. I didn't have the money to buy the 430 you suggested Taso. The one I bought will do nicely for now.

I tried it out in my partners house a bit and it was cool. Got the event to do on Saturday and I'll see how it is at the event.

Then I went to GC and bought a tripod mic stand. Also the piece to hold the mic. I plan on using it Saturday as somebody or some people have speeches they want to make.

The event is for someone in recovery celebrating 10 years of being clean and serene. Along with a birthday celebration. I might know some people attending the event. I just hope those who know me won't expect me to play that know I DJ. Anyhow I bought these items to use for future events and not just this one.

My partner is saying we're going to have a good time. I'll wait and see. I don't get excited most of the time about an event until the event is going on and things are going well.

My partner was just planning to bring a corded mic and that's it. I told him we're bringing both the dual cordless mics and the corded one as well. Don't half step when doing a private event. Now it would be something different if I was playing in a bar or club. For everything it just a little over $200. Anybody else working this weekend? We will be using the EV Tour 2152 speakers for this event as they look great and sound great.

One other note. Unique Photo had a Panasonic TV for sell for $100. My DJ friend talked me out of getting it as it was attached to a very nice stand. It was a 48 inch TV I was told. It might have been a Plasma TV. The big issue besides it being so cheap is that it was super heavy. They said they would get it loaded in the van. That's fine but what about when I get it to my house. How will it get in the house and in my room to get setup? So forget about buying that TV. It was nice and a great price. Just don't know who I could get to help get it in the house without needing to go to the hospital when finished.

So you bought $200 worth of gear for a single event that at best you are being paid $250 for. So after gas to get to and from the event and your insurance cost and wear and tear on the gear it is costing you to do the event. You really do have the best business plan out there.

These items will be used for more than one event and your assumption of getting paid $250 to do this event is wrong. Again reread what I said. It's not about just this one event. My thing is for buying these things is for when I come back from my surgery. So I decided to get what was needed for this event and beyond.

Then this means you made $250 or less, which is what someone already said. You made no money.

Considering the images we've seen you post, a speed light is not going to help .. nor do we know which item this was, other than a Godox .. and not what was suggested to you and most likely not anything even close to equivalent. The money you spent on that light would have been better spent on a class teaching you how to take better pictures and media.

Mix I get the urge to buy gear trust me when I say I buy s**t I don't need all the time. Sometimes I buy it and resell it very quick sometimes I make a few bucks on it sometimes I lose a few bucks on it and sometimes (more often than not) I keep it. I got gear coming out my ears here much of it I don't use on a regular or even semi regular basis

The difference is I've had a reason to buy it. There was a solid plan in place to make money or it was a toy. You buy with no solid plan hoping you may use it someday. I'll put money on it that I'll make more profit this month, the slowest month of the year, than you will all year.

Make yourself the rule that if it's not making you long term money you don't buy it. Take the hundreds you save and put it in to a website and business cards. Follow that and this time next year you and your bank account will thank me

No it's not. Let me ask this question since I answered that question. What do any of you think of the speedlite I bought?
It's a knock-off of the Canon Speedlites. Probably works, but you won't get the same consistency, cyclic rates or reliability of the better brands.

Wait .. are you saying .. a business plan should be done first?
