Ollie's locations in Baltimore are getting an influx from a buy out of wedding dresses they did. I bet they got the dresses from David's Bridal, and/or an online retailer who needed to move old stock out.

Anyway, a lot of brides in my area are going to be hitting up Ollie's to check out the dresses. I wonder if the savings will mean they are willing to up their budget on the DJ?

Unless you're a discount as well, then probably not. I can almost guarantee that if you discount your prices by 75%, you'll get alot of calls and bookings.

I'm sure I would! My clientelle would be different, and I would be back to working Firehall and Church hall weddings. ...Working every weekend, probably some doubles, and earning a low amount of profit if any.

I could raise my price to $5,000, then run a 75% off discount sale which would make my price $1,250. ...They would save $3,750 which could help pay for the rest of the wedding...What a great deal to take advantage of!;)

Brides looking for that big a bargain aren't likely to look to spend much on their entertainment. I don't know what your prices are but I doubt brides like that will be willing to pay even your lowest price.

Keep in mind, that Ollie's buys overstock, items that don't sell, and inventory from businesses that have closed.
What they sell now is not a guarantee that they will ALWAYS sell them.

And BTW....just because a bride takes advantage of a bargain,
doesn't mean she's cheap, and will look for a bargain with everything else.

I agree. I have done a number of weddings over the years where the bride mentioned how great of a deal she got on her dress, but I was still booked at $800 or higher.

Actually, I did a Bride and Bride wedding in 2015 where one of the ladies said her dress cost $99. That wedding had some Up Lighting added in, and was a $1,450 wedding booking at the time.

Just like everything...Clients will prioritize different parts of their wedding differently.

I personally think it's foolish to spend $3,000+ on a wedding dress considering it will only be worn one day in your life. BUT...If they are wealthy, $3,000 isn't anything to be worried about. ....I wouldn't advise any middle class bride to go spend $3,000+ on their wedding dress though.

Keep in mind the average varies based on region... average dress cost in NYC (and the surrounding areas) IS $3000... meaning there are many more that spend higher as well, and of course lower... in the meantime the rest of the country spends around $1500. So for you to say you wouldn't advise spending $3k+ may not be practical in certain areas.

With that said, I would also NOT ADVISE that anyone live in New York! Very high taxes (property tax is 96% higher than average in USA), very high cost of living, scary stupid politicians elected to leadership roles, the winters suck. I can't find a good reason to live in New York. :)

I agree with everything... however, while I wouldn't want to live in NY... I do appreciate living close to it. It is quite something to be able to see and experience so much so close. There's nothing quite like it anywhere else in the country for better or worse. Just wish it was a little cheaper to live in NJ which is just about as bad as NY.

There are plenty of discount & high shops in NYC I don’t think she spent anywhere near 3k for her dress. Between the shops on Long Island & NYC, she had plenty of choices and in all different price ranges. We were honeymooning Hawaii & moving in a house so she knew not to go crazy.
But the money & jobs are in NYC. They have been building up like crazy in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens both residential and corporate. It is to the point at times I don’t recognize where I at in some places I’ve used to frequently visit. Taxes in NYC aren’t too bad. The high taxes are in the suburbs which the main drivers are the schools, fire department & Library. We had planned to move in PA but the commute to NYC from the West is much more difficult than from the East. Weatherwise, my mom is in Maryland and she gets much more snow than we do. Now in the 60s’ and 70’s we used to get a ton of more snow & had much colder temperatures. The lake in my town has not frozen over for ice skating in over 30 years. Why NY?, well at least Long Island, NYC 50 mins away, Beaches 15 mins, three Airports the closest one 15 mins, Hamptons 60 mins. I don’t think could give up my office hrs at the beach now. If you’re a DJ there is a huge wedding, bar/bat & Quinceanera market and an insane amount of catering halls. When I was in the wedding market it was very common to do a Saturday afternoon then a Saturday evening wedding.

Simple and a bargain .. what else could a girl want .. plus .. she got all that HAIR ... :)

My wife spent $400 on hers.
Not because she was looking for a bargain...
but because she wanted something simple...
and she loved it when she saw it.

Whisper has simple tastes...and had made several trips to Davids bridal (my best friend runs the place) and was more than happy with something simple.... but the building she works in has a cute little wedding dress boutique on the first floor....and every day she walked by a dress she loved...seeing it in the window... she never said a word to me... but one day her sister let it slip in front of me...

...the rest is Christory
