RDX Surge Does anyone use "Pay Pal Here" for credit card payments? I received an email from Pay Pal about getting a free card reader and collecting credit card payments through them. There is a 2.75 % per swipe fee which is the same as most the others like Square. I signed up for Square after I posted a question here last year and that is what people suggested but had trouble getting it to work with my phone so I forgot about it. I have not had anyone try to pay by credit card but want to be prepared in case the day of the event thats the only way they have to pay. I read through past post but I did not see anything about Pay Pal Here . I state on my web site payments can be made via credit card and if some one wanted to pay with one I would do it through regular Pay Pal just looking for a easier option for my customers. Any information would be appreciated

I use PayPal Here.

It is great WHEN IT WORKS.

...The problem I have is the Card Reader won't read the damn cards no matter how I swipe the card. I stand there trying to swipe the card for at least 3 or 4 minutes. After about 100 tries, it finally captures the card info, and I can process the transaction. That seems to be EVERY time I use it. ....The app has an option to manually put in the credit card number and exp. date, BUT the app won't accept the manual input. I can't get past the input screen so it takes the card info. That part is annoying as well.

So, I have it around in case I need it, but it's buggy, and it sucks standing there with the client trying to get the card reader to work. I just want it to work the first swipe.

I have the PayPal reader, but use Square if a CC is needed.

I used PP for several years (when I first started taking credit cards). The swiper was crap. Also, I noticed that some check cards wouldn't work at all with paypal (either with the swiper or via computer). I switched over to Square and haven't had a single problem since. Square also deposits money directly into your account. With PP, you have to initiate a transfer to your bank which often takes a couple of days.

I've had my own merchant account, and also used Intuit (Quickbooks) and now Square. My own merchant account was the most effective but as time went on the security requirements became increasingly costly which is why Intuit, Square, et. al. have become so popular. All of the security bench marks you are required to maintain for card processing are now handled on their end.

I have both Square (both swipe and chip readers) and PayPal (swipe only). The next time I use PayPal for credit card purchases will be the first time. I use PayPal primarily for internet purchases.

I really dig the Square dashboard, directory and invoicing structure, and the ability to create a shopping list of products so that data entry for repetitive products is minimal.

Getting the money out of Square and into my checking account is generally nor more than a day or two, including weekends.
