As for Posh DJs I saw a ad on craigslist about them looking for DJs to do events for their company and want to only pay $250 is what I saw.

You might want to take them up on that...

i dont honestly think he has any idea whats going on... if they are reraising this magic number of 700 and throwing the rest in the wind all because they somehow want to stay on a perpetual 700 dollar budget... then they are the worst committee ever...lol

You missed it again as usual Chris. The amount the area allots to them is $700 now. It used to be $500 till the committee got them to finally raise it to $700. Now if they want more they to go to area and put in a motion. Then it gets called to a vote to give them more money or not.

So wait - the committee has to put forth a motion for some other 'area' committee to vote on? This makes no sense. I don't think you understand how this works.

The guy carry's his dj gear and has a severe back injury. Sorry but some people just use the system for their own gain.

Mix you aren't understanding how it works....I've worked with the same organization many times over many years. The local committees do have to work on a budget yes but they decide what that budget is. When it's a regional roundup the regional committee decides on a budget and gets support from local committees. I can guarantee if they have 100 people their budget is more than $700 to put on an event. Food for 100 people would be more than that.

Basically they can afford to pay you what you want they are choosing not to. I kind of agree with them they don't need fancy honestly why buy the cow when the milk is free

No you don't understand. I said if they want more money besides the money in their budget, they have to come back to area, explain why they are looking to get the extra money and then it's called to a vote. Now if the area just doesn't have the money, then nothing can be done.

Sorry we're not talking about the same thing. One might be an activities committee and another a convention committee. The activities budget is already set and they have to work with in that budget. So the first thing is finding a friendly place to have an event. A place that won't charge a lot for the committee to have an event there. They have 2 places that only charge them $200 to rent the place out for an event there. They can handle that. Some places want a whole lot more which they can't afford.

OK, they get $700 from the area .. and sell tickets at some nominal $15-$20 per person. With 25 people coming and paying, that brings in another $500, so they have $1200 to spend. $200 for the room, $500 for food and now $500 for entertainment. If you aren't getting but $100-$150, then I'm assuming that you are not prioritized very highly in their minds. Otherwise they would be working on how to get MORE than 25 people to come and pay (and have enough to pay the ASCAP/BMI/SESAC fees they should be paying).

Those figures are way off. Tickets are 1 for $5 and 2 for $8. There is a budget for the food. I don't know what that is and I don't know how much the place is costing them to have the event there. So that's that. A lot of these activities committees are doing this now just to get people to come to the event.

A conversation committee is something totally different. They can't afford to break even. They have to make a profit doing events to get the hotel paid for and other expenses to have the convention.

Again... i find it comical that people in your world are charging family members 35 dollars to come to their birthday party... and yet you are doing gigs where they only charge 5 bucks...and you are working for pocket change...

NOW...if only you could get the birthday gigs with all that money coming in...you might be able to make a couple bucks...

if these committees are never gonna have budgets to pay you properly....why are you sniffing around them like theyre a cat in heat... walk on down the road and find some new people to surround yourself with

I'm a member besides being a DJ. So it's what I believe in and have a passion for. Staying clean and serene is the most important thing to me.
