I played for the seniors this past Friday at the senior center in Montclair, NJ. This for me is always fun because when playing for the seniors I get to play a lot of music I don't normally get to play. It was a fif that started in the morning just before Noon and went for a few hours. Nobody going crazy dancing. Just a few dancing a very little bit. This time We only got a few pictures of the setup. Just used 1 speaker on a stand and kept the music at a low volume. No blasting the seniors out. My partner took a few pictures of the setup. I eill try and post one picture of me and the setup.

The guy looking to do this big event in July came to see me play. He was convinced I could handle that big event he's planning on doing. If my friend doesn't do the job then it goes to me if I want it. I wanted my partner to take some video but he got caught up talking to the guy about this big event he's planning to do. We'll see about that. Now a lady that knows my partner was talking about an event coming up on February 13rh and would like us to do it. Gave her a business card and she said she was going to see this lady that afternoon. The event is for homeless people. My partner said he knows her and her husband very well. He said they do a lot of events including a big festival in Orange Park in Orange, NJ. He said they can get us a lot of exposure. So just waiting on a call from the lady. I got thanks for the music I played. Like I said I have fun doing an event like this. It's a refreshing break from what I normally do. Hopefully I get to post this one picture. Sorry but the location for the photo says there's no extension to post the photo. I will try another way to post the picture later as I got to get some sleep. I got to get up very early in the morning.

lol more free gigs for more exposure for more free gigs. Also how tacky bringing a guy for another event to a gig you are doing and spend alot of time talk to him. Even better he thought you would be great for it based on a event where very little people danced at low volumes with one speaker? SO all he did was blow sunshine up your ass because he knows he can get you for cheap and a promise of exposure. You have listened to nothing. Same old mix doing the same old crap with no chance of getting better.

You took ONE speaker and nobody danced but the guy who came to see you was convinced you could do the big event for him.

May I ask, what convinced him of that?

Wrong as usual. My friend highly recommended me that did a couple of events for him. So it had nothing to do with me playing for the seniors. I played music in the past for seniors and they hardly dance. They just sit there and enjoy the music. The people there yesterday were mostly in their late 60's on up.

Now besides the guy who was there to see me, a lady approached me about doing an event the day before Valentine's Day which is on a Thursday. I gave her a card and that was it. Nobody else came up to me about doing an event somewhere. Now again what convinced him I would be the fine with doing this big event in my friend that I have known for over 10 years. He's seen me do enough things that he knows I can handle it. That's it.

Every Mix gig report includes the following elements:
  • Nobody danced
  • Everyone told us it was amazing
  • We were offered at least 4 other jobs during the event
  • Cameras are difficult
  • Not enough money for 1 DJ, let alone 2
You forgot, he always gets to play music that he doesn't normally play.

If a potential customer came to see Mix play and he felt convinced that Mix could perform the event, then why would this person be talking to the partner and why does the 'friend' get the first shot? Being that Mix said 'If my friend doesn't do the job then it goes to me if I want it', then it sounds like the customer wasn't convinced enough - Mix is a backup.

First off I was playing the music so I couldn't talk to the guy the way I wanted to. I don't do events a lot where I play oldies but goodies. Also my friend is the first choice because he has worked for him before doing this event and I haven't. Just that simple.

Then the customer didn't come there to see you nor to be convinced about anything - just that simple. I have not ever introduced my customer to who could potentially be my backup performer. Likewise, I have never been introduced to anyone as a backup performer. Additionally, my friends have never told a customer to come to one of my private events to check out my performance. If you couldn't talk to this person, why was he there? Being that you had one speaker and barely any dancing, what exactly was he convinced with?

He was convinced on the strength of my friend and a member of the committee. Also nobody has ever referred you to a job that they can't do? That's what's happening here. Now it's up to me to accept or reject the event.

He is convinced on the cheap price you will give him and then complain on here about later. yes you are doing it cheap. Anything less then $1000.00 in cheap for what you described.

Then why did he need to show up? This makes no sense. Your 'friend' convinced him that you were good - you did nothing.

Also nobody has ever referred you to a job that they can't do? That's what's happening here.
People refer work to me quite often. They don't need to 'convince' the customer of anything .. nor does the customer need to show up to a private event.

Now it's up to me to accept or reject the event.
Actually, it's not. It's up to your 'friend' to decide if he wants it or not. If he does not, then you have the option. You're a backup.

It wasn't a private event. My friend has referred me to someone because he can't do an event and knew we could do the job. He then leaves me the person's name and number to talk to them myself. I asked him the other day has anybody came back to him saying that he shouldn't have referred us to do an event? He said no. Enough said.

He already said he didn't want to do it and wants me to do it. Now he knows for certain I can handle the event and know I will do a good job. That's why he referred me to begin with. Anytime he refers me my aim is to make me and him both look good.

But again how does he know you can handle it based on you doing a party with one speaker for the elderly? All your friend told him was you have gear and will do it cheap. Thats what convinced him.

The above is YOUR post, #1 in this thread

This senior event .. was not a private event? What kind of event was it? Did you get paid for it? Was there a contract? Why was there only one speaker?

Then YOU state:
If my friend doesn't do the job then it goes to me if I want it.
Nowhere in there, did you say, my friend does not want to do it.

No it wasn't a private event. People were welcome to come. The thing was with my partners GF selling that Paparazzi Jewelry. I was there to just play some music and have fun playing for the seniors. We only brought one speaker because that's all was needed. No need for 2 because it wasn't that type of event. The music was just loud enough for people to hear and enjoy. This was not a seniors or oldies but goodies dance.
