Is it really "winning" if you have to pay for it?[emoji1] I mean, yea... you placed the highest bid, but how hard is that?... If you had to arm wrestle for it, or something like that, then maybe you could call that a WIN, but just plopping down the largest wad of cash... that's not winning IMHO.[emoji1]It's like... I could go to the trophy shop and by myself a trophy, and then tell everyone I WON this trophy![emoji1] I bought a lottery ticket and won $4. I could go around telling people I won the lottery[emoji1]... but the ticket cost me $5... I lost $1... Winning -$1 is not winning![emoji1] You bought a camera dude... you didn't WIN it. Get over yourself![emoji1]
But I did win "dude", as I didnt get outbidded, as if I did, I would of lost the auction, so when you dont lose, you , say it with me, win, so yes, I did win.

And I strongly assure you, I am not full of myself, I am about one of the most humble and down earth human being's you will ever meet .

Gotta disagree, dude.[emoji1]... Getting outbid is NOT the same as losing? What exactly would you have lost???... Your money???... Nope... you'd still have it. The camera???... Nope... You never had it, so you couldn't LOSE it.[emoji1] I don't see any loss in being outbid in an auction.[emoji1]

The opportunity is not lost... If you're outbid, you had (and took) the opportunity to bid.[emoji1] The person who outbid you also TOOK the opportunity... only further.[emoji1]

The opportunity is lost only when you don't bid before the auction ends.[emoji4]

Still disagree.[emoji1]... The opportunity to "win at the price he would have been good with" NEVER EXISTED, because someone else was willing to pay more. If the opportunity never existed, it was never lost.[emoji1]

Opportunities are always changed by circumstances .. doesn't mean that at some point in time it wasn't an "opportunity" ... so I disagree with your disagreement.

I disagree with your disagreement of my disagreement.[emoji1] Logically if you bid $5 on an item, but someone else bids $10 for that same item, the opportunity to bid was taken by both parties. The one who bid $5 never had the opportunity to buy it for $5, because that opportunity did not exist. That's not a change in circumstances.[emoji1] There was still an opportunity to buy it for $15... just was not an opportunity taken. Not lost; just not taken.[emoji1]

I hope you get that those little laughing emoji's mean I'm joking???... Even though I still think you're full of yourself, there wasn't much in that post that was serious![emoji1] If I EVER wanna be truly serious, it's not likely to be posted in a DJ forum.

If I bid $5, I have the "opportunity" at that point to win the item at $5 ... if someone else bids I don't anymore.

From Merriam-Webster ...

Opportunity:

1 :a favorable juncture of circumstances
  • the halt provided an opportunity for rest and refreshment
2 :a good chance for advancement or progress

I would think that without knowledge of the bidding pool, one would have a "good chance for advancement" at that point of time ... It's not like we are referring to a $5 bid on a $5000 item ...

Sorry...[emoji1], but you NEVER know what others are going to bid in an auction... That's kinda what makes it an auction. You may THINK your $5 gives you an opportunity to "WIN", but it only does if nobody else bids higher. Someone else's higher bid is not a change in your circumstances... only a change in your awareness that you've been outbid![emoji1]

Everyone wants to turn too many things into a win or lose situation. If I quote a potential client on an event, but another DJ gets the job by quoting less, that does not make it a loss.[emoji1] If I took the gig for less money than it cost me to do the job... THAT would be a loss.[emoji1] I didn't lose the opportunity. I submitted my best quote. Someone else quoted less. The only one who might be a loser in that scenario is the client who gets stuck with a cheap @ss DJ![emoji1]

If you quote someone and someone undercuts you, or the client picks someone else .. you most certainly "lost".

So are you saying the Denver Broncos NEVER had an opportunity to win last night? Even before the kickoff? ... You'd probably be right though in that case ...

...Of course... Right now, they're all (NFL players, owners, and league personnel) a bunch of losers in my book. Not watching anymore. The TV networks are not showing the National Anthem anymore because the player protests have ticked off fans... like me for instance. I still read the stories about who on what teams protested. Until those protests stop, I'm not watching the NFL.[emoji4]
