Ok, here is a question, since I'm still trying to make a name, should I take an offer to do a voluntary event for publicity?
If you feel strongly about the cause .. just don't expect much in the way of publicity or "exposure" .. generally doesn't happen.

if youre doing it because the person who contacted you said "it will be great publicity for your company" then as steve says...they are feeding you a line that they have used on djs and vendors for years....and they are coming to you because all those vendors are long gone because it did nothing for them...

however...if you do believe in the cause... by all means do it from your heart...and consider it a generous gift with no pay out

I am just running live sound for a 40's pinup competition, there will be people there, although there has been no mention of it yet, I may get paid for it. More than anything, I am doing it as a favor for a friend who is competing.

I did a couple of freebies early on, but not really for exposure. You can only practice setting up and tearing down your mobile DJ setup at home just so much. Doing it live in an unfamiliar venue is an entirely different thing. You learn all kinds of stuff when you have to setup for a real gig. You might also find out about some of your own physical limitations. I’m glad I did the freebies before I started charging for my services, because it helped me determine my own value as a DJ to some extent.[emoji4]

I'm hoping you mean 2040's. ;)

I just booked the live event, the proceeds benefit a local charity, Operation Injured Soldiers. That charity, or any that help and support our troops, is one I will willingly do for free, any day.
