Great Deal on Traktor Pro

The software alone will not provide you with anything remarkable - Traktor is a hardware intensive application. It's the hands on mix and remix control that people pay $$ for.
Completely untrue statement.... Know of which you speak before you speak.

Right - 'cause there's nothing more ergonomic than a PC keyboard for live remixes. LOL.

Not saying' there's anything wrong with Traktor - there isn't. Just don't think you are done spending money at $39.95 'cause you're not - the software is inexpensive because it's the loss leader to the NI hardware and that hardware is where the DJ rubber meets the road.

Ok let me rephrase....

You are correct in that strictly from an interface without controller point of view it offers no more than any other DJ software including Serato, VDJ or PCDJ and the like.... however, unlike those others it is much more cost effective and in many cases is included free with their controllers... even their cheapest controllers..... none of the other companies can say that.

Now lets be honest.... I'm not banging the Traktor drum as the end-all be-all DJ software.... nothing could be further from the truth other than I do like it for what it does. I still use VDJ, Traktor, Serato, Karma, iTunes, Windows Media Player, Media Monkey... hell if it suits me I'll use Winamp!

To me it's just another tool.... and like any tool you can never have too many. (Grunts like Tim the Toolman Taylor)....

That's not true. Serato is / was free with many controllers. All the updates were / are free too.

As I understand Serato DJ is only free with flagship controllers like the DDJ-SX but not with like the DJ Wego which comes with Serato Intro and like VDJ you have to pay to upgrade to the full version.

That may be so - I wouldn't be buying an intro controller.

I

agree but with NI even the X1 and F1 come bundled with full versions of Traktor Pro

X1 and F1 no longer come with Traktor.

X1 version 1 did ... version 2 (current model) does not. F1 comes with a $50 voucher to buy software from NI, so you can get a discount on Traktor.

I've never paid for upgrades either... And I've gone through two.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Just saying, I have never once paid for an upgrade - and I've gone through quite a few versions.

If you want to update functionality, you did have to pay (to add video for example). Also, if I want to move to Serato DJ, I will have to pay.

I'm thinking the first thing you need to do is invest in your own music library. If you will have money to buy equipment, then you will have money to buy music.

Having your own music collection shows that you are serious about what you do .. and in a professional capacity. Anyone can steal music .. and those that do, often pay the price for stealing it. Experience and performances will help with other aspects of being a professional as well. If it was easy to make alot of money doing what we do, everyone would be doing it.

People do get caught stealing and do pay the penalty - legally and financially. In addition, most media obtained this way is not of good quality and a good chunk of it is not what they say it is. If this is the case, your clients will not be happy with your performance. In addition, you take a great risk in downloading viruses and other such problems. Perhaps the biggest, it's morally and ethically wrong. Would you want someone selling you something they got for free? If you want to be treated like a professional, then you must act like one.

Keep in mind, alot of these folks that make this stuff available WANT you to download it. There's a reason they WANT you to - and it's not because they want to give you free music. There's no such thing as a free ride.
