Got a wedding to do on July 25th.

Let me say this so I don't start another thread. We normally do an event in Branch Brook Park the last Saturday in August. Not sure if the event will happen this year. If it doesn't I have this promoter who wants me to play at a cookout the same day. It's going to be in his backyard where he lives at. Just have to get permission from the husband who owns the place. We'll see what happens. The date is 8-29-20.

I was asked to do a wedding July 11th but couldn't due to being out of town. It was the 4th daughter of a friend of mine who was getting married and I had already done the other three. He understood. 3 days before the wedding, their photographer got a call from the local health department. They told her that last weekend she shot a wedding where a bridesmaid had since came down with the virus and listed the photographer as someone she had come in contact with recently. The health department shut her down for 2 weeks (4 days before this wedding she was supposed to shoot). The photog had to pay out big time to get it covered, as expected.
Then I find out yesterday, one of the groomsman is this wedding I was supposed to be at has now been diagnosed with it, and I'm sure had I been there that I would have been in contact with him. Blessing in disguise I guess since I would not want to be shut down for two weeks just as business is picking back up.
 
I'm thinking LLC .. that does mean Lotsa Liabilities Company doesn't it?

He's taking advantage of the SBA's PPP loans, for Pandemic Partner Protection.

The guy is a promoter having a barbecue where he lives and if the landlord is ok with it he wants me to come and play instead of just attending. Nothing is guaranteed. There still is the park event. That's an annual event we do the last Saturday in August. Just have to wait and see what happens.

This is as follows. The bride and groom are coming in themselves. No other people for the wedding party. Unusual but it's their wedding. The father daughter dance, garter toss and that's it. Just play some music and keep things flowing. That's it. No arguing just show up and do what we do.

I just fought with myself on making this post. I decided I know some will blame me but I assure you this is not our fault and has nothing to do with us. They changed the location for the wedding. Instead of it being in Harmony Banquet Hall it's going to be in someone's backyard on 15th Street. Now we could have backed out because of the venue change. That would mean if we said no to doing the wedding we would have to give the money back either in part or full. I left the call up to my partner. He said for us to do it since we've already been paid. . The time changed as well.

Now the start time is 3pm-8pm. Just get another contract written up and signed. They say first time for everything. This is the first time in 33 years this has happened to me. I know it's non of our business, I was wondering why the change. I won't ask of course. Just curious. I will never know but I got my suspicions as to why the change. Just let that part go and do the best job for the couple.

It got changed because the laws wouldn't allow it to happen inside at this point. We told you that.

Don't forget to increase the price since it's 5 hours instead of the original 3. And charge for gear you need to bring to be outside. And make sure they have a tent/overhang for you, or bring your own .. and charge for that. It's going to be wonderful working outside in 90 degree weather in nice clothes.

Are you serious about not knowing what the change is about? Duh. Maybe it’s the same thing that people on here have been telling you. The state of New Jersey says that the event CAN’T take place as you described it. You really have little to no understanding dude.

I think someone told you this last Friday .. Weird

Better yet I just called the venue and they said they are not doing any weddings at this time. So not sure who says it is on but it is not were Mixy boy said it was.

I disagree dude. My friend says it's our big day and wants me to get excited. I'm not excited. Just use the 2 tops, get the job done and leave. Again as far as the reason for the change, sure you're right. The thing is that was out of our control. The point is to get paid and make the best of it and hopefully gain more work from it.. Stop comparing what we did in the park to this. Different situations. Since there is the change I wonder how the situation worked out with the venue and the couple in terms of money. Of course I will never know as it's non of our business. I blame the venue for not doing it's homework and just chasing after money. Of course businesses like that one are hurting right now unless they have a hugh prudent reserve in the bank to cover expenses till things are able to somewhat return to where events can take place in a venue.

I was told the lodge on Main Street in Orange, NJ is closing its doors in December because they aren't making any money.

It’s not the venues fault... it’s the clients fault for taking a chance knowing the uncertainties. Something tells me though that the venue never officially got booked, and you were given inaccurate info. They (the couple) probably were considering doing it there last month when there was speculation of indoor dining opening up on July 2nd, but when that never came to be, they probably decided to do a backyard party since the venue wasn’t an option anymore.

You are the one in fact not doing your homework, as you should’ve seen this coming and been on top of what the current regulations are and what your options would’ve been if the venue didn’t open.

I have 2 events that went from indoors to outdoors next month... did it affect me in any way... nope... why... bc we knew that this was a possibility and prepared for it ahead of time should the client choose that route.

I get that and you said you were told of the change last month, not days before the event is to happen.
 
I talked to that venue as I stated already. That wedding was never booked there. They made it very clear they were doing zero weddings.

Also it not your big day and this is the problem with you are your partners entire business model, oh wait you dont have that either. It is the Brides big day not the DJs.
 
Mix .. you DO realize that running a "business" is more than "showing up and doing your thing", don't you??? As Taso said (and Jimmy and others earlier), YOU needed to get ahead of things, realize that things aren't "normal", prepare for other outcomes, etc. This is planning, this is leading the client, this is "BASICS" ...

Huh? How is it a big day for you two? Is he secretly planning to propose/marry you that day? If you guys were handling your business correctly this wouldn’t be an issue. Part of the problem is that you and your partner have no clue of what the other one is doing. No transparency. You should know everything he knows about a gig and vice-versa.
