A sound clash is a whole different animal. A sound clash is a battle of system vs system. Very big in the Caribbean culture.

I’m originally from the northeast, and none of the dj’s I know break out the system for free, unless they are having their own cookout or party. Maybe it’s a culture thing in that area of NJ.
I'm also from the Northeast ... and never seen this.

I'm from Northeast... Ohio😄

I love hearing my sound systems.... Making money

I know what they sound like. I don't need to hear them for free.

We do a few free things a year. But it's for elderly people, with minimal equipment needed.

Our time is more valuable than the equipment anyway

Time, energy, and exposure of lots of equipment for little to no money.... No thanks.

Plenty of different DJ's from all cultures around here. None I know bringing piles of equipment to a park for free.

Mix isn’t doing what these guys are doing what’s n the video. They coordinated organizations or groups using matching speakers most likely using these events as promotion for other events they do.

Back in the 90s when I was doing lighting only events Because I just got my Intels that the West Indian groups liked. At a couple of the events they had One of the Jamaican sound systems come in to do DJ. They came in 15 minutes before the start time, brought in a crap load of speakers, started on time, and rocked the hell out of their audience. Here’s where it gets interesting. They had a DJ, MC, a selector and one turntable. The selector pick the music, handed it to the DJ, DJ played it and in between tracks the MC did his thing and used a effects unit. Wildest thing I’ve ever seen.

If you’ve ever been to the West Indian day parade you’ll see some of these sound systems on the tractor trailer truck Now. Although now I do believe they used two turntables or CD players

I Guess since I’m closer to NYC I get to see all of these different things.

Here’s a brief history of sound systems.

Over in Asia they do it little differently as I don’t know too much but I know the emphasis is not as much on the music .

Park jams are cool but they need to be organized in order to be successful. It takes more than getting permission to use the park and putting out some flyers. Here in Atlanta we do an annual event in the park called DJ's Day Out. This year was our 8th consecutive year doing it. I got to be a part of the planning committee for it and it really opened my eyes to how much work needs to be done to put this type of event on. From the outside as an attendee it just looks like a big picnic for DJs but there is much more to it. I was originally supposed to provide sound for the event this year and I was (somewhat like Mix) excited to pull out my large passive system to impress my DJ buddies, but because we were organized and our event was well known, we were able to get sponsorship from Bass Boss speakers. They came out and set up a killer sound system for us to use free of charge. They used two 18" Subs and two 12" tops. I asked the rep how much the system goes for and he told me $12K. Here's a link to the speakers they bought out.

The date was changed today to October 6th. My partner suggested the change because you never know what the weather might be like in late October. Hopefully for the new date it will still be a bit warm.

Just bring a few more amps and powered speakers .. those should keep you warm.

Bassboss 12s and 18s aren't like regular 12s and 18s and I agree unless you are just background music 12s and 18s for a park setting is a bit light especially if there are performances

It IS in a park, but with 2 twelves and 2 eighteens at this park event, there would be at least one speaker for EVERY guest.[emoji1]

I just found out one of the DJs who's playing that day is bringing 4 bottoms himself on top of what we're bringing.
Is he bringing the appropriate crossovers and delays as well?

Does a beige power strip and an orange extension cord count?

I figure if Mix is getting his foot in the "festival business", he probably has asked these questions.
