I am in NY, 15 mins from Brooklyn and setting up sound systems like you showed in the video is really a Jamaican thing although they do it in other countries, even in Asia. Notice in the video that’s an organized contest going on where each of the sound systems are being graded and evaluated. I sold some of my Vegas to one guys who does each type of shows, he had a whole garage full of matched Vegas subs & speakers. At least where I am playing just a DJ playing in the park stopped many years ago. And I am from where there are a ton of people in the entertainment business. Where the disconnect is, it the way you go about doing these events in the park. If it’s connected with something like a concert, reunion, festival or something like that, then great. They have plenty of events outside during the summer and you usually get paid for doing them. But to pick a random date just to go out and play music to whoever is there or virtually just a couple people is very questionable. Especially if you say you want do this to make money. Now if you’re very young, well then that’s a different story. Your choices are limited. Getting together working with other DJs does have it’s merits but but usually most of us network, go to tradeshows, maybe Accompany other DJs to their paid shows, refer business to each. Likely the last thing I think any of us would consider is grouping our Equipment together to play to a tiny audience. Maybe it’s our age or years in the business or most here view this as business not a hobby. If it’s a hobby that’s fine just say so and it’s will be viewed as that.
