I don't really regret any gear investments because at the time I got some use out of those LED fixtures that are now sooo obsolete. Yeah, the Chauvet minspots were at least my chance to get an idea of what can be done with moving heads. They actually worked out OK for small weddings. Most of the lighting I bought 5-10 years ago isn't used anymore and it seems like wasted money. But it really wasn't. Getting Freestyler for free made up for it.

The Carvin 1801 powered subwoofer OTOH has been useful for years and I bought it used. May not kick butt like heavy yorkvilles, but it's done the job for small-medium weddings and even school dances.

Other good investments - EV speakers, yamaha speakers, 223xl crossover, R&R cart.

Worst, most of my current, ok, now ex current DJ gear( yes, I got new toys on the way)
Good, Gemeni CD player I bought in 2005, still working
Best, Denon MC6000
I love my MC 6000. It works GREAT! Not to mention it's a nice size and that makes it easy to carry.

I love mine too, I will agree, on the size and it being easy to move around.

At one point, I had a Gemini CDX-602. I was not happy with their load time - other than that, they were fairly good.

American DJ Galaxian Laser I think I have used it maybe 4 times? Proms. Lots of green and red dots and you have to be careful when aiming.

I have the CFX40, its been so long since I have used it, I dont recall if the loading was slow , but I can understand not being happy with the slow load times.

I finally sent the Gemini off to the great big recycling center in the sky. It was a decent deck - my only complaint was the slow load times. I have some single drawer Technics decks that did alot better than the Gemini - and I've had them for 26 years. The 'benefit' of the Gemini was the dual deck 19" rack mount.

Tanks all for your post. That brings back memories of stuff I bought when I first got started in 81. I had 4 pairs of no name speakers that were loaded some cheap drivers. The nice thing about them was that the wood was nice and they had wheels. I eventually had the drivers changed. I used them until I got out of the business the first go around. I remember using a Sherwood power amp and pre amp. They were really for home use. I had to use a fan in the back to keep the amp cool so it would clip from getting too hot. I also was using a Numark mixer which for that time was one of the best mixers at that time.

I haven't used mine at all this year and I just bought it in 2014. I was disappointed that there isn't a dimming channel. It can be dimmed with the factory settings but not via DMX. Dots look bad on dancers IMO.

Oops, I don't have the galaxian. It's the quad phase

For me,
Bose model 2's
Bose Compacts
Sennheisser ew135g2

The biggest regret is all of the no name gear I bought for years that was cheap, sounded ok, but didn't last.
Other brands I used that I didn't regret were peavey, jbl, qsc,

I love my Sennheiser EW135 Mics!!! Also love my Peavey Black Widows!

Best purchases
Technics 1210 M5g... nuff said.
2009 MacBook Pro... no issue, no viruses and I've only had to max out the memory and upgrade the hard drive to 1TB.
Danley TH118 subs... I own four of them. I've had issues shaking down venue lighting and AC vent fixtures just using two; they're that powerful! Their sound quality is unmatched.
Facade... hides unsightly wire and looks great with uplighting behind it. Saves on setup time.

Worst purchases
Martin Freekie... an archaic solution and programming it seems the same.
Global Truss ST132 stands... too heavy and overly robust for my needs. I've gotta wear gloves or run the risk of crushing a finger when using them.
Sonic Maximizer... used it when I ran QSC HPR tops and subs. It always caused my subs to thermal.

I use the ST132's. I need them for my truss setup. Out if all the gear I own, those 2 stands are the most hated pieces of necessary gear. Heavy, pinchy, awkward. Hate em.

I program lights in my basement, so I ended up buying another pair of ST132's and truss so I can leave it set up in my basement. Hated hauling those things up and down the stars.

Recently bought a couple Revo4's....they are for sale if anyone is interested. Quite possibly the only purchase that never even made a gig; just not something we found to be a good addition to our system (mostly because we don't feel they will keep up with the rest of our lights in terms of brightness)

Best purchase would have to be the semi. Second best would be our latest mixer purchase which gave us better versatility in inputs, improved sound quality. Third probably our Edirol V8 video mixer.
How old are the Revo's? Also your best purchase was a semi? As in semi-tractor trailer?

I use it at school dances and otehr 'dance' events, not at weddings. I aim it at the ceiling and it's kinda cool. Cheap and small enough it's not a bother to bring it.
Might be nice if it was DMX but it has a remote.
Tempted to put it outside aimed at my house for xmas lighting...insted of spending $40 at walmart.

I been seeing them too. I think they're going for a bliss effect without the bliss light - I don't think the laser dots on that one move though. I haven't been able to see one in action - but I did use a bliss on my house for halloween.

About a month old; taken out of the box to play with in the office, never been to a show. Just not what we can use.
And yes, as in Freightliner tractor with 53' trailer. It's our only event hauler actually. We quit doing small stuff years ago.
